Pre Requisite : Please keep a bowl of water handy, just in case you feel sleeping reading this article. I am sure it will leave even the "Somnolent" quite fresh and awake for atleast 1800 seconds post reading.

Acknowledgement : I know this isnt the place where acknowledgement should come as it is supposed to be towards the end. But i just cant wait to thank all those who have been an inspiration in presenting this article before you in black and white.

We all know that sleep is required after a days hard work so that, we are fresh again to face challenges the new dawn brings our way. But, what is adequate sleep?? How much is actually required to relax our mind and body?? Scientists have said that 5-8 hours of sleep at night is the adequate amount. Less than 5 hours or more than 8 hours is thought to be a health hazard. They have also proved that no amount of sleeping during the day can compensate the loss of a good nights sleep.

I am sure 98% of you reading this will be proud to say "Oh!! I love sleeping." And for most of you sleeping may even be a hobby. Well, i have no problem with that. But there are those who think that sleep is just a basic necessity to a healthy life.I think no differently and am proud to be a part of the minority who chose to be different.

Just a second, Are the scientists right in saying "Too much of sleep ( more than 8 hours per day) is NO GOOD?? Read on and you will understand why i doubt their findings.

Finding sleeping Joes or sleeping beauties in class is not a rare scene!! Most of us feel , these are the "poor people" who were deprived of a good nights sleep(reasons unlimited). But is that true ?? From what i know and what i have heard ... these are the same people who go to bed early and rise late. SO DEPRIVED OF WHAT?? SLEEP???

I know some unque personalities whom i would like to introduce to you. One such personality is seen constantly dozing during lectures but can repeat the whole lecture if asked later. Mind you... the whole lecture...including additional stuff...like questions asked by her fellow students to the lecturers. Those sitting next to her wonder whether she was sleeping or just relaxing her ocular muscles.

At the other extreme is someone, who if shuts her eyes even for a few seconds will find it hard to recollect what was spoken by her neighbour , forget the teacher!! To add a feather in her cap... this sleeping beauty can sleep even if there is an university exam to answer the next day!! This is something all would wish for " A Good nights sleep before an exam" which is something rare these days. There's yet another person who wh finds the atmosphere of the classroom so comfortable for sleeping , that you will hardly ever find his eyes open. The thing is envy about him is his fearlessness inspite of being caught while sleeping and the "cool" response he gives the lecturer as though, being caught doesnt make any damn difference!!!

Then there are those who have mastered the art of sleeping to such an extent , that they could even go through all stages of sleep without blinking an eyelid. Infact a majority of our classsmates had attained the MS degree in this (Masters of sleep - MS)

Today i say there are thos who can sleep ANYWHERE ANYTIME...I hope it doesnt change to sleep EVERYWHERE EVERYTIME!! You too might find some interesing somnolent personalities, you just need to look around.

Till you find some .... VIVA SOMNOLENCE!!!
