One of the most important aspect concerning our lives is Tolerance.  This involves in our day to day activities at our workplace, at our homes and in our localities and in long term aspects like relationships

Short Term tolerance is what is expected at our workplace with bosses, subordinates and people  with whom we interact with.  Long term tolerance is our relationships at our homes with our spouse, parents and children.

Lack of Tolerance.

Today our lives have become far more comfortable and easy thanks to modern day innovations like ATMS, Internet banking and mobile phones.  The common saying is to achieve something we have to sacrifice something.  The sacrifice has come in the form of lack of patience because of these modern gadgets.  Lack of patience is nothing but lack of tolerance.

Lack of tolerance can affect in our lives like strained relationships, frequent arguments with our spouse, relatives or close friends.  This happens because we begin to expect too much from them and too soon.  While the expectations are high, we tend to expect it to happen in too short a time.  We expect our life partners and parents to be perfect like ATMs and if there is a genuine flaw in them or a flaw perceived by us we tend to over react.  This could result in probable divorce in case of spouses. At workplace when the boss does not get immediate output from his subordinates, then tempers run high.

Too Much Tolerance:-

While lack of tolerance is a cause for concern, too much tolerance too is not advisable.  Especially in a relationship, if one partner tolerates everything for the sake of happiness, it is often perceived by the other partner as a weakness to sustain the relationship. Kids take advantage of over tolerant parents.   Similarly at workplace sometimes too much of tolerance on the part of subordinates is perceived as meek surrender of the subordinate.  More often over tolerance is mistook and advantage taken care of.

The most difficult thing for a person is to distinguish the difference between tolerance and over tolerance.
