BETTER TIE UP WITH SOCIAL SERVICES!

Man is a social animal. He lives in a society. He lives amidst other human beings who make up the society. He has many social obligations. The welfare of the society decides his welfare. His happiness depends upon the happiness of the society as a whole. Hence he , as a being gifted with reasoning power, should contribute to social welfare. This kind of argument shows that a man's social service is governed by a certain degree of selfishness. Social service with out selfishness is commendable and noble.

There are Social Service groups in schools and colleges as well as non-academic Social Service Leagues in the country. Young students are taught the principles of social service and trained in rendering various kinds of social service. The members of the social service group of a school or college led by a teacher or professor , visit a slum. They sweep the narrow lanes and streets of the slum. They remove the rubbish collected to a distant place. They teach the slum dwellers how to keep their dwellings clean and explain to them how diseases are caused by dirty environment, The social service group may take with them a few photographs of neat and beautiful slums of other areas to inspire them to keep their slums also clean and beautiful.

They may also teach the slum-dwellers how to keep their huts clean and safe-cleaning the vessels, the clothes and the floor - and how to prepare nutritious food for their families in the cheapest way. The slum-dwellers should be asked to use pure water or cooled boiled water to keep themselves healthy and safe from infections. The members of the social service team should do all these services with a smile, with sincere kindness and with some affection for the slum people. They can also offer their services to put  up roads in the country side. They can assist the police in regulating the crows during festivals and public meetings.

Individual social service is as important as group social service. A blind person or a lame person or a sick person or an old person struggling to cross the road may be helped by a social service member to cross the road safely. At the post office uneducated people may need the help of the educated person available to write letters to their relatives or to fill up the Money Order Forms. Offering the help required, without a murmur, reveals the real social service temperament of the helper.Renovating an old , worn out and forsaken temple  for public use can be done by the social service team. Strangers who visit the own or the city may need some guidance to reach the bus stand or to know the particular buses to take to reach the destinations. The social service people should help them whenever they come across such new-corners to their town or city.

Such services as help the public or a section of the public can be done during a flood havoc , a fire-accident, an earthquake, a storm and a railway accident. The social service member or members can send the information to the concerned authorities and start helping the afflicted before the arrival to public help. The wounded may be given , if possible, the first-aid, and then taken o the hospital. Some people inadvertently fall into a well or river or lake. If they do not know swimming , they will die of drowning, the social service people, if they know swimming , should try to save such helpless people. Those people might have swallowed plenty of water. The social service members should know how to remove the water from their stomachs. They should not hastily assume that the people who fell into the river or well are dead.

The social service member or members, by rendering such noble services, will develop love for all humanity. When they settle down in life, they make efforts to get a new school or a hospital opened in their localities. If they themselves are rich, they can build a school or a college or a hospital with their money. By doing such public services, the social service members spread the sense of universal brotherhood.
