A perfect example of hw a book review shud be ....

Aditya Sengupta.
Book - The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.
Author - Mark Haddon.
Genre - Fantasy/Mystery

This book is very well written. Possibly one of the all-time favourites of mine in the world. The story is unique. It's written from the point of view of an autistic child. Autism is a disease where a person faces severe problems in communicating with others around him.

So, this 15 year old boy, Christopher, is an amazing mathematician, observer of things around him, and very sensitive to touch. And other quirky and random things are in the book too. The basic plot is the sudden death of a dog named Wellington in his neighbourhood. When the dog was found dead, Christopher (a dog-lover) was hugging him. Everyone starts suspecting him. He lives with his father, his mother had died a few years back.

Christopher decides to unravel the mystery behind the dog's death, but in turn, unravels many other deeper and darker mysteries about human nature in turn.

I love the way the book has been written. Since he is a good mathematician, the chapters are all in prime numbers, starting with 2, 3, 5 and so on. Suddenly, the story deviates to things that Christopher observes in real life, but with an amazing simplicity.

It is a very heart-felt story, and the twists and turns will keep the reader glued.

It is a must read.

My rating - 9/10.

Book: eleven minutes

Author: Paulo coelho

The story is about a girl named maria. Of her dreams, philosophies and desires. It is a story about the girl who leaves everything behind and puts everything at stake just out of curiosity, just to know what lies beyond her limits. Out of her eagerness to live life her ways she even leaves her country and moves to Switzerland where she learns many new things but pays very big costs for this. Completely exhausted by this she wants to go back but destiny has something else for her in store.

You must read the book. It is a real good and a complete time pass. .

P.S.: I forgot to mention that the book is a lil’ erotic in its approach.

Rating : 8.5/10

Q & A
(Slumdog Millionaire)

by
Vikas Swarup, 318 pages
This is the story of an orphaned 18-year-old boy who is currently a waiter at a bar in Mumbai, and has just won a Billion rupees (yes, you read it right – a billion) in a game show. The people behind the show think he has cheated, and Ram Mohammad Thomas finds himself in the jail. The whole book is about him proving his innocence. He recounts episodes from his life in Mumbai, Delhi and Agra, and how each incident helped him find the correct answer to the question being posed to him. At the outset, Ram Mohammad Thomas says he got lucky. He did did get very lucky – he was asked a question about some actress, he had worked for her; he was asked about some diplomatic term, he had worked for an Australian diplomat; he was asked an English literature question, he had helped a English teacher and called him up for help, and so on. But the quiz show is largely in the background. Mainly this book narrates the life of Ram Mohammad Thomas from his birth to the present; each chapter deals with a different phase of his life.

The coincidences, which help Ram Mohammad Thomas to win the quiz, are nothing short of colossal, but then we are forewarned about this in the initial few pages itself. So I was actually looking forward to how each incident in the protagonist’s life helps him answer the question. Though sometimes the book does read like a movie-script and at few places it drags along.

On the whole a very enjoyable read.
Its Worth reading

The Lost Symbol .....

Whoaa ... I cant believe the book thread has passed the date Sep 15th and not even one soul in here has given a review of what was one of the most awaited books of the the year ...i m talkin bout Dan Brown's The Lost symbol

Set in Washington D.C ,the book is the third in the installment from Dan Brown involving Prof. Robert Langdon and this book deals with Free Masonry and the Ancient Mysteries that has been a kept century old secret by the secret society.

It also involves a deadly killer named Mal'akh who is hell bent on getting the Ancient Mysteries at all cost.

And the third most interesting part in this book is the introduction of Noetic Science which is supposedly the science that deals with the power of human thoughts over mass and material ...

This book too gets the reader into an intriguing world of codes puzzles and secrets right from the start and dwelves into the inner sanctum of Freemason society by potraying many of the rituals that takes place inside ( tho all these are mere fictional in nature). The architectural splendour and the inner secrets of the Capitol , the Washington Monument and the Congress Library are all well etched out to keep the reader hooked on to the plot.

Althoug the aura surrounding the Ancient Mysteries mentioned in the book is kept throughout the by Dan Brown , the actual revealing of the Mysteries , one must admit , is bit of a letdown.
Dan Brown is trying to be very repetitive and sticking to this old formula a la Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons.. But the facts in his books are awesome.. You get to learn a lot of controversial stuff

Overall , another Best seller by Dan Brown. Despite Da Vinci code , which had the power to raise a controversy so big , that it even mite have changed the belief of some, The Lost Symbol is more of a roller coaster ride... Its exhilarating , its wild , its fun ..but then its over...

PS: Not my Fav Dan Brown book tho, the new one. I still adore Angels and Demons for its spectacular twists and turns until the very last section of the book.

Her life becomes more bitter as Moretti plans to kill her lover Adam, who was after Moretti's life. Moretti end up finding out Parker's affair with Adam and shot her.

And story ends.
Rage of Angel's is one of rare books of Sheldon which doesnt have happy ending.

The kite runner

This book is just beautifully written by Khaled Hosseini.
We also have a movie on this novel directed by Marc Foster.
I personally like this novel like anything. It was just beautiful to read. You can get emotional most of the time or engross yourself completely in this novel.
Now, about the story,
The story is about a boy named Amir, who betrays his best friend cum his father's hazara servant, Hassan. And the betrayal is such that Hassan get raped. This story also deals with the rise of Taliban in Afghanistan.

Good-
The novel received the South African Boeke Prize in 2004. It was the first best seller book in USA, according to Nielsen BookScan.[2] It was also voted the Reading Group Book of the Year for 2006 and 2007 and headed a list of 60 titles submitted by entrants to the Penguin/Orange Reading Group prize (UK)

Bad-
The Kite Runner has been accused of hindering Western understanding of the Taliban by portraying Taliban members as representatives of various Western myths of evil.

Recommendation-
Must read.

A Suitable Boy

..By Vikram Seth
Dont let the sheer size of the novel deter you.

This is a multi-layered novel, as it slowly unwraps the main character's adventures, offers a glimpse over a changing society, divided from the cultural and politic imprinting the British colonialism inevitably left .........and the slowly, progressive recovery of an independent identity, later leading to the splitting of Pakistan.

Lata's journey across India, either real or virtual, and across her mind, the generation conflict between a mother and a daughter, sons of wealthy people dealing with poetry, handsome men with the only guild to belong to another religion, honest working guys, unfaithful wives, a restless political class, conflicts between old idols and progress are all part of this timeless fresco of a changing society.
