Our life is full of aspirations and targets.  We always dream, imagine or aspire  to go up a level further in our areas of activities in our lives and yet at the end of the day it just remains an unfulfilled imagination.  All our aspirations may not be achievable but certainly smaller and realistic aspirations are achievable. The reason why we fail to achieve even smaller targets or graduate to the next level is because we underestimate ourselves.  While being proud, boastful arrogant or over confident is bad, underestimating ourselves is also equally bad.  The reason why we underestimate ourselves are:-

Extreme nature of a person:- By nature many of us are egoistic.  We always think we are in no way inferior to others.  A clerk in a organization never thinks or accepts the officer above is better than him.  The clerk always thinks the officers are not as talented or knowledgeable as themselves, but are just lucky enough to be officers.  However clerks though they think they are more knowledge never make an effort to become an officer. If there is a opportunity to try to become a officer, they do not try for it as they think they cannot become officers.  This is where the problems comes because they underestimate themselves.

Gap between target and current status:- Many people look at the gap between their target as to where do they want to reach and where are they currently.  They think it is impossible to bridge the gap to reach where they want to.

Hesitation:- Another bottleneck to achieving our targets is hesitation.  There is always a question mark in our mind "Can We"

While there are bottle necks which prevent us from reaching where we want to, we can make atleast small improvements in our lives if we make an effort.  Some suggestions are:--

If you are a clerk and want to become a big officer, do not look and the gap between your current status and expected status.  The gap though looks big is made of smaller gaps.  For example when a boy is born he does not become a graduate.  A boy starts with studying in kindergarten then to primary, upper primary, high school and college.  The gap between kindergarten and graduation looks big, but if broken into smaller parts looks easier.  Similar a clerk should try to graduate to the next level like head clerk, supervisor, junior officer  before aiming to become a senior office..

This applies in almost every field. In India millions can bat but only Sachin can become a legend.  The reason why Sachin became a legend  is because he took the initiative to go to the next step, i.e. go to coaching class and learn cricket.  Had he though that he is not fit enough to become a cricketer and what is the point in going to a coaching class, he would never ever become a cricketer.

Friends, never underestimate yourself, target the next level whichever field you are.  Whether you are successful or not cannot be guaranteed but atleast by trying you give yourselves a chance of being successful.

Regards

Satish
