Brithish Parishioners Wage War against Bats
Britian is popular for its love of creatures, but the British Parishioners dislike bats for various reasons.
The Bat Nuisance :
Bats rear their offspring in the rafters of the old churches. They make a terrible mess of alters and pews. They damage rare medieval paintings, carvings and brass work. They even make a direct hit on the communion chalice during Sunday services.
Anti-bat Campaign :
Parishioners and Vicars from more than 150 churches and a newspaper columnist campaigned against the bats Rev. michael Wade said that the bats used churches as public lavatories. Auberon Waugh, the columnist said that bat droppings were extremely offensive to Christian congregation.
Pro-bat Campaign :
Meanwhile thousands of enthusiasts of local bat groups and the Bat Conversation Trust alongwith English Nature, try to preserve bats from extinction. they try to promote bat welfare and improve the image of bats. English Nature, moreover promotes the welfare of Britian's 14 native species of bats.
Legislation :
The 1981 Protective Legislation gives rights to bats to establish roots in churches and even in houses. Those who object are usually adviced by English Nature to coexist.
How to save the churches :
English Heritage is a government body that allots money for the maintenance of historic buildings. Michael Corfield of English Heritage said that the contents of the chruch wre precious and that the bats were also active. So, English Heritage and English Nature advised parishes to place deflector boards overhead.
Call for a Religious Crusade :
English Heritage and English Nature with Protective Legislation, try to protect bats and their roosts. But Waugh, the columnist calls for a religious crusade to drive the bats out of the chruches, because Christian congregation or Christian shrines are not given such protection.
