We live for attention.when we meet someone we always put forward the most attractive part of one's personality. Am I talking to you because not only I want to put forward my point I also wants to be loved by you.to seek attention from you.

An author writes a book because that he can grabs his attention towards his readers although the teachings he mentions in his books he surely does not implement in his life but he always wants to make you see that his ideas are that good.from the start we try to grab the attention of our parents,in school teachers, friends and other such areas. In he I like to say attention doesnot gives importance but importance gives attention.

When you feel that you owe not only attention but something more than that then you start demanding for importance

Some times you are in such an elated mood that you want to say something that impresses the other person. But in actuality you are acting. Everything which tells you that 'you are acting' will be abated on that situation. Everything becomes an involuntary action.Because in that desire of impressing others there lies another desire of gaining importance towards you from that communication.

so the lover who knows his love can't be her/his, for he/she has already chosen to be someone else's, will not try to get noticed, but will, by shunning all attention from the loved one, lest she might tear up between the two, is satisfying his sincere loving self. hence, the difference between being selfish and being noticed.
