Chewing gums.......
His name is Budu. Budu, a fourteen year old boy who works as a helper in the tea stall. Whole day he is busy making tea and washing tea tumblers. He works for only four hundered rupees a month which are not sufficient to buy ration for his family from the co-operative depot. His mother also works as house-maid to earn for her family. Budu has two younger sisters, Meena and Nimi who study in a nearby school in sixth and seventh standard respectively. Budu's father died four years ago in a bus accident and so Budu had to leave the school to earn for the family along with his mother.
Today Budu has asked the tea stall owner to increase his salary to five hundered rupees, the owner has agreed to do so but now he will have to do some additional work at his home in the evening. After getting free from the tea work in the evening now Budu has come to his owner Sohan's house where the dirty utensils of whole day are lying in a heap waiting to be cleaned by poor boy.
Budu is now free to go home after doing the dishes. Sohan's wife, Sarita is impressed with Budu's clean work and so has given him a packet of sweets. Sohan has taken the packet and is going home to share it with his family but on the way his childish tenedency says him to open it up. He can't resist the aroma coming out of it so he opens it up to see, what is there inside?
Budu has opened the packet and it is having Gulab jamuns, he counts, one..two..three...four............twelve pieces. He decides to eat one and share rest with the family. It is so delicious that he wants to take one more, one more and this way all twelve are gone into his tomach.
Budu is still feeling the urge to take more but there is none left.
Budu has licked the sweet sap sticking to the packet and thrown the empty packet on the way.
Now he is also feeling guilt inside to have eaten her sister's share.
Budu has taken five rupee note out of his pocket and is now buying chewing gums for his sisters so that they can enjoy the presence of something in their mouth for a longer duration.
