It was Monday morning. The bell or the first period had taught Math’s to lass IV class-B. Kavita aunty taught Maths to class IV B. she was also their class teacher.

The children were ready for class. Rani, Savita, and suresh had opened all the windows. Ramesh had got fresh chalk and put in near the blackboard. Aruna had changed the date card. Sujatha and Pavan had dusted the shelves.

Every one was excited. They were to play a new Maths game today. Kavita aunty had promised them last Friday. Class IV-B loved Maths. It was such fun to work with numbers and shapes and patterns, And so easy too. Maths was their favorite subject.

But where was Kavita aunty! She was never late and rarely absent. What to do now?

At first the children started talking softly. But very soon everyone was shouting and laughing.

Deepali, Chandra and jabber scribbled on the blackboard Somali sat on Autny’s table and pretended to be Kavita aunty. Some children ran about and played statue and soon had a fight. Some rolled on the floor. Some sang songs.

Everyone was fond of Kavita aunty. But it was also fun when she wasn’t there in class.

If Kavita aunty came in just now, what would she do? She would walk in, hang her bag on the back of her chair and look at the class. She would be very angry about the noise and would tell everyone to be silent. Then she would separate the children who were fighting. She would look at the drawings on the blackboard and at Somali on the table. This would make her smile. After that she would clap her hands and everyone would sit on their chairs.

But Kavita aunty did not come. So the class went on making a raw.

Suddenly Gurmeet aunty came into the class. She hung her bag on the back of the chair and looked angry. She said, `Children please are quite.’ She separated the five children who were fighting. She helped the children on the floor to get up. Hen she locked at the drawings on the blackboard and at Somali. She smiled. After that she clapped her hands.

Everyone quickly sat on their chairs.

Gurmeet aunty said, `Kavita aunty is ill. She won’t come today. Now take out scissors and the colored paper. We’ll play a game with shapes’.
