King Uthanapada had two queens, who were named Suruchi and Sunithi. The king loved Suruchi more, as she was beautiful, and so, he always stayed with Suruchi and her son Uthama. The other queen Sunithi had a so too, whose name was Dhruva.         The king loved both his sons. But Suruchi wanted the king to love Uthama more. She never likes Dhruva. The king did not dare to show his love for Dhruva, in the presence of Suruchi.          One day, Uthama and Dhruva were playing in Suruchi’s palace. Both of them ran to the king playfully to sit on his lap. Dhruva was about to sit in the king’s lap first. Suddenly Suruchi ran to Dhruva, dragged him away from the king and drove him out of the palace. Poor Dhruva was very sad.         He ran to his mother and told her all that had happened. Dhruva said to his mother Sunithi, “Mother, I am also the king’s son. So, why am not allowed to sit on my father’s lap? Who will help me to get my father’s love?”  Sunithi consoled Dhruva by saying. “God is always there to help you. Pray to God, and you will succeed in attaining the greatest desires of your life”.          Taking his mother’s words to heart Dhruva left the country and went towards the jungle, to pray and seek God’s blessings. On his way, he met many saints, who taught him how to pray. At least he entered the deep jungle Madhu Vanam. There he sat under a tree, and started chanting the name of Vishnu. Days, Weeks, and moths passed, but Dhruva did not stop chanting. Because of his deep concentration even indraloka started trembling. The frightened devas and sages went prayed to Lord Vishnu. Finally, Lord Vishnu appeared before Dhruva and said. “Dhruva I am pleased with your devotion. What do you want?”         When the child Dhruva saw Lord Vishnu before him, he forget his father, ad his desire to sit in his lap. With folded hands he said. “Oh Lord! I want nothing but our company always.” Vishnu smiled ad said, “child from today you will be one the stars high up in the sky, ad will glow for ever on the northern side of the horizon.”         Saying this, Vishnu disappeared. Dhruva became the Dhruva nakshatra. Even today, you can see the star Dhruva on the northern side of the sky. As his mother had predicted, Dhruva attained a very great position in life.
