Think about the sun. Does it make any difference among people while spreading its rays? If gives its bounty of sunrays equally to all. No one is low or high, big or small, inferior or superior while spreading its golden rays. Let us learn from it the message that all are equal and same.

Look at the clouds. Do they show any difference in places, people or religions when they rain. The rain drops equally quench the thirst of all. So why should we have difference amongst us.

Let us learn that we have the same spirit running though all of us. Your mind is pure let it never color itself with difference and separatism respect all faiths and religions.

In Kapilavastu, many years ago there lived a king called Suddhodana. Suddhodana means pure rice. He had a beautiful and holy wife called Maya Devi. A noble child Buddha was born to such great parents. He was named Siddhartha.

As the time passed Siddhartha got married to Yashodhra. King Suddhodana knew from a prophecy that one day Siddhartha may leave the kingdom to become a great sage. Since he did not want that to happen he provided all the luxuries to his son. But despite that one night Siddhartha left his places in search of peace. Devdatta was a relation of Buddha, a brother of Yashodhra. He had in his heart a jealous hatred for Buddha. While Buddha was respected by all, Devdatta did not enjoy that kind of respect. So jealous was Devdatta that he made friends with king Ajatashatru and made plots of killing Buddha.

One day Buddha was preaching to his disciples. The murderers sent by Devdatta to kill Buddha came there. Gautama Buddha was giving his message of love and peace. These were not mere words since Buddha practiced love, peace and unselfishness in his life. The light of that was shinning from his personality. Looking at him the murders could not perform their wicked deed. Hearing his words they became his disciples.

At another time Buddha was sitting with his disciples below a hillock. Devdatta’s men pushed a big stone from a precipice. The huge stone came rolling down but before it could hit Buddha it split into two pieces. Both pieces passed by from both the sides of Buddha without doing any harm. Buddha’s disciples were very angry they wanted to take revenge. But Buddha calmed them.

Jealousy is something very bad. Despite that these attempts had failed, Devdatta again tried to kill Buddha.

This time he sent wild elephant but it became calm in the presence of Buddha. Instead of attacked Buddha, it bent down saluted Buddha, so great was the power of love and peace that Ajatashatru became very sorry for what all he had been doing. He went to Buddha and sought peace.

Remember

Every one has different qualities. Try not to be jealous of others.

With love peace and tolerance you can win the heart of others. Hatred and jealousy burn oneself more than the person one is jealous of.

Learn to forgive and forget.
