Candice Bergen,is an American actor and photojournalist,and she is best known for portraying the title character in the television situation comedy “Murphy Brown".She was Born in Beverly Hills, California, to ventriloquist Edgar Bergen and fashion model Frances Westerman Bergen,on May 9 ,1946.

She appeared on her father's radio program,when she  was introduced to show business in 1952 . She begin to hae her higher education at the University of Pennsylvania in 1963, but she left two years so as to begin a career as a fashion model in New York City. She had  an immediate success as a fashion model, and in 1966 she appeared in the motion picture called as "The Group" by American director Sidney Lumet.This film was  the first of many motion-picture roles in her career, and th epicture below shows the poster of th efilm "The Group"

Later she acted in many movies like The Sand Pebbles (1966), Getting Straight (1970), Soldier Blue (1970), Carnal Knowledge (1971), and The Wind and the Lion (1975), for which,Bergen was praised not only for her beauty but also received criticism for the stiffness of her acting.She was also  nominated for an Academy Award as best supporting actress for her role in the comedy Starting Over in the year 1979,and the poster of the film is shown below

“Murphy Brown” debuted on television in the yeat 1988 with Bergen in the starring role. This  gained immediate popularity, and Bergen's character was an outspoken television journalist who worked with a disparate group of characters to produce quality television news program. This show was running for a decade and finished in 1998.Bergen also enacted in the Oscar Winning Film "GANDHI" and she played the characted of Margaret Bourke, who was an American Photographer.the picture belos showas a scene from the Film Gandhi where she acted with Ben Kingsley(Who played the Character of Gandhi in this film)

Bergen also won critical praise for her performance in the film called Broadway play Hurlyburly in the year 1984 by American playwright David Rabe.Apart from this, she also  worked as a successful photojournalist for more than 25 years, contributing articles and photographs to varous magazines magazines, including Cosmopolitan, Esquire, Life, National Geographic, Playboy, and Vogue.  Knock Wood,her memoir, was published in 1984.She married French film director Louis Malle in 1981,and they had one child, a daughter named Chloe Malle, in 1985. In 1995 Malle's dead due to cancer.At present she is  married to  Marshall Rose., who is a New York real estate magnate and philanthropist.
