Who is François Quesnay?

François Quesnay was a famous French economist,and he is also the principal founder of the Physiocratic school.He was born on June 4th,1694.He was born near Paris, a place called as Merey, whose present name is Eure department.His father was not only an advocate but also a small landed proprieter.

Abou his early life....

At the age of 17, he became an apprentice to a surgeon and after that he went to Paris and there he studied medicine and surgery.Later he qualified as a master-surgeon,and became a doctor in 1744 and subsequently he was made physician in ordinary to Louis XV.He settled down there to practice at Mantes.Quesnay was married in the year 1718, and he had a son and a daughter and his grandson was the former member of the first Legislative Assembly.

His famous works

He was deeply interested in economics, and this made Quesnay wrtte  articles on the subject for the renowned Encyclopedia of Denis during the year 1756 and 1757.It was in 1758, he published "Tableau economique", known as the Economic Table and he became ver famous for this as this provided the foundations of the ideas of tyhe Physiocrats

Tableau Economique

In his famous work Tableau Economique, which is known as theEconomic Table, Quesnay presented what he considered as the natural law of economics.Along with his followres,namelyPierre Samuel du Pont de Nemours and Victor Riqueti, marquis de Mirabeau,he maintained that commerce and industry were essentially nonproductive and only agriculture could increase the wealth. They also felt that Economic law must be allowed to act without interference so that the prosperity of the nation is obtained.

His death

Quesnay died on December 16, 1774. In his long carrier he was able to see his great pupil,such as Turgot, in office as minister of finance.
