Pahalgam is one of the most beautiful places in the world
Most people in the world know Pahalgam as base camp for Amarnath cave where the world famous Shivaling forms naturally of snow every year and remains there for a fixed period before melting automatically. Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati said to have stayed there for years together. The most famous ‘Chhadi Mubarak Yatra’ takes place during rainy season mostly in the month of July during the famous Hindu festival of love and affection in between brother and sister of ‘Rakshabandhan’.

Pahalgam described as honeymoon point
Pahalgam situated at the height of 2130 meters from the sea level at the mouth of Sheshnag Lake and on the banks of Liddar River is one of the best places for tourists interested in horse riding, trekking, fishing, skiing, water rafting and other related sports. Pahalgam surrounded by snow clad hills, shining glaciers and beautiful landscape with green and colorful scenario fast flowing white water so soothing for eyes. The white water that flows so fast and with so much noise makes one forget every thing else and one can remain sit there for very long time watching it.

How the valley came into existence
The valley of Kashmir was a big lake in olden times but according to ancient books saint Kashyap took the whole water out of it and turned it into a beautiful place. However, according to geologists that sliding of rocks and mountains disappearing on a mass scale especially in Baramulla region of Kashmir was the main cause of water flowing out of valley. That was the main and foremost reason of formation of this wonderful land known as heaven on earth ‘Kashmir’- Pahalgam is one of the most important part of the same

Pahalgam famous for films and shooting
The place was famous for shooting movies although film industry has shifted to Switzerland due to unfavorable conditions created at local level. However, there are so many places associated to Bollywood reminding of golden era to the visitors here.
Pahalgam surrounded by snow clad hills, shining glaciers and beautiful landscape with green and colorful scenario fast flowing white water so soothing for eyes is one of the great places for couples with all kind of facilities from big star hotels to lodges and camping facility along the river with no one to disturb.

No one ever thought that Pahalgam, which used to be shepherds’ paradise ones would turn into tourist’s paradise one day, this is such an amazing place that one feels almost hypnotized once he reached here. One of these shepherds found the famous Amarnath cave while one of his sheep lost its way and reached to this place by accident. Later that shepherd told about it to others and they started spreading the news. The family members of that particular shepherd still get part of earnings from that cave.

Where to stay
The place is about 90 km from Srinagar the capital of Jammu & Kashmir with every facility to stay in Pahalgam including top class hotels to shakes and huts also. They arrange tents and accessories on advance booking but make sure from the local tourist center situated in Srinagar about the safety precautions.

When to go
The best season to go is from October to June. July to September is rainy season here that may not allow you enjoy outing. November to February is too chilly but some people love it that way and from March onwards the weather becomes too good for all kind of tourist’s activities. There are many beautiful places in the world Pahalgam is one of them. We call it Switzerland of our country.

Other places to see
Although this is hard to describe the beauty of Kashmir valley and its surrounding places. but I would like to name a few worth visiting places, which are popular and most visited. There is Dal Lake (not Dull as I some times mentioned it by mistake) Chashmeshahi, Shalimar Garden, Gulmarg, Khilanmarg, Sonmarg, Tangmarg, Cave of Amarnath, Nagin Lake and Charchinar. People speak here different languages but most spoken languages are Kasmiri, Dogri, Laddakhi, Urdu and Punjabi although some people speak Baluchi and Laddakhi also in particular regions.
