Being yourself

As we grow older, we learn from people and the world around us!

1) Our parents 2) what we read 3) our teachers and friends 4) what we see and hear.

All this helps us to know more and think better. But this does not mean we have to be exactly like our parents, teachers, or friends. We cannot! We should not! Each of us is different; each of us is special.

`Being original’ means doing something the way you want to do it. You may take some ideas and suggestions from others, but what you finally do should be original- your very own! Being original makes people more creative.

Do creative people have these qualities? What do you think?

a) They have many new ideas.

b) They learn from others but add something of their own, too.

c) They are usually successful in what they do.

d) They are usually very happy with what they do.

Do creative people need to discipline themselves? Do they need to practice?

Some people are creative a lot of daydream. Instead of paying attention in class or in office, `their minds wander off some where else’. They think of other things. What do you think about this?

Protect your self

Most people are good people. They like you and will never harm you. But a few of them may try to harm you. If you are not sure about whether what they doing are right or wrong, you need to tell your parents.

Let’s see if you can help these friends!

An uncle of this girl always wants to be alone with her. He always asks her to go for long walks –only the two of them. He comes into her room and shuts the door. He keeps playing with her hair and holding her hand. He tells that this is 1secret’ and she should not tell anyone about it. She does like what he does, but does not know what to do. What should she do?

`Bhaiya’ lives next door to a boy who is n class 6. He keeps inviting the boy to his home. He lives alone and watches movies and other programs that are for adults only. Bhaiya tells the boy that there is nothing wrong with watching these programs. He likes to sit very close to the boy and even makes him sit on his lap. He frightens the boy and tells him not to tell anyone about all this, or he will be in trouble. What do you think the boy should?

A girl is ten years old. She goes to school in a car pool. The `driver’s helper’ always makes her sit next to him and puts his arm around her. He carries her from the car to the school gate as he say’ she will be late for school if she walks. He always tells how pretty she is. Do you think this man’s behavior is okay?

Will you tell your parents about any of these people?

1) A stranger who keeps meeting you in the park

2) A person who has `made friends’ with you on the phone.

3) A neighbor who signals to you to come over to his house.

4) A neighbor who tells to come with him on a motorbike or cycle ride.

5) An adult who makes you feel frightened.

6) Someone who touches you in a way that makes you feel uncomfortable.
