Food production is going to see a big dip in the future to come with India having a huge chunk of population (60- 70%).this decrease is not only going to hurt the food chain but also the economy of India. one thing which can be done is rotation of crops and preserving the farming area by banning its sale for buildings or arenas. the best way to control this may be control on population with better care for crops. they Are often getting hit by either too much of water or too less water again resulting in rotting and wastage of grains.

There was a talk around 10 years ago about developing an interrelated canal system covering all the India. Connecting every district through dams and canals.the motive was to collect all the extra water which caused floods in one area and direct it to another part of India suffering from drafts.. Nothing came out of it though.

The food problem is growing worldwide and all over world government is now worried how they will manage this crisis.

People in developed countries consume 30-40 times more grains than us (sounds weird given how fit they look in Advertisements!). They eat more indirectly. We directly eat food but there food is first eaten by lets say an animal. this animal spends 60 -70 % of food to maintain its daily life and converts 30 percent or less to meat. So if you eat this you are wasting 60-70% of food. Beef is the major source of food in developed countries. 1KG beef production needs around 1000 liters of water and all the grain that goes with it which is in 100s of Kilos. In Australia Cattle farming is major business. So the cows are grown like we grow other source of food. Giving away that will definitely increase amount of grain available to others.

Developing an alternate eating habit is need of the hour. In India rice / wheat is present in almost all meals. But in Abroad this is not the case. people eating salad / fruits as a meal itself. So an alternate (healthy) eating habit is need of the hour. This change has many positive effects

1. It cuts down the amount of crabs we eat.

2. We get protein and other nutrients as well as part of our diet.

3. It is good for our body. We live longer and healthier. That's why average life expectancy abroad is much more than India.

4. Motivates farmers to cultivate other crops as well.

food crisis is not due to Indians because,

1.we create our own rice and we are ready to export

2.growth of food in every country is tampered due to change in whether conditions

3.bush commented that because Iranian president criticized bush when he can to India

he took revenge for that

4.they are destroying farms and building huge mansions and architectural building

they needed to hide the above two reasons so he commented. In India we are not having proper storage for produced food. I have seen in China they are having silos from America where they are keeping food and rats and insects are not eating. But in India FCI is keeping under plastic tarpolins. Our government is not bother about the suffering of farmers. If they are building silos like China or buying from America we will be feeding peoples and not rats and insects. Also our farmers will not suicide 60 per day like now.

Food problem in India

Even a lot of food is wasted by common people, some of my friends consider it a status symbol to waste food and other resources like water. I feel in tons food might be thrown in dust-bin daily. This is because we people born after green revolution doesn’t know anything about food crisis nor we are told about the terrific stories of famine like 1770 and 1943.

unless this generation tries no good will happen to our in future. This generation  believes patriotism is to sms "i lov india", to news channels, or vote for Tajmahal. unless you learn to love the people of your country you can never love your country.the value of human life is so minimal in our country

alt

This is because lack of proper education. Social Science is considered useless subject imposed on high school kids. People waste food because they don't know in Bengal one third of population perished in famine of 1770. In 1943 famine millions perished again. USA used to bully by threatening to cut food supply and people volunteered to fast one day a week to save food because it is precious. But today young people who are lucky to work in a MNC and make much more money than required and cost of food doesn't make much difference on their pocket, so they take it granted in infinite supply.

True there has been lot of hiccups about this issue, irrespective political parties. All the states have this problem. This is because our politicians are taken for a ride by majority bearcats who have one sole motto “to serve their needs" and then others if there is time with riders.

The question is not just corruption, but also with that of supply chain and not really empowering the local administrations (Gram panchyat, Taluk panchayat adn zilla panchyat) to have their say on these matters, also the issue of lack of imagination by implementing officers of the scheme. there cant be any reasoning that can be accepted for such gaffes by government.

A large percentage of our produce gets wasted. Moreover, our farm systems are not efficient. Starvation deaths are not because of there is shortage of food grains in India. India has enough grains. And it is quite possible to subsidize more and get enough farmers to go in for food grains.Another problem that India is facing is mal-nutrition. The solution would  improve health care facilities and providing nutrition thru the mid-day meal scheme.

We commons of India don’t have procedures to expel/replace Prime Minister. Hence Prime minister sees no reason in improving food situation, and instead spends his time in catering the needs of upper middle class and elite men like building highways, IIMs, JNU, airports, flyways, SEZs etc.The wastage of food is a minor issue. The real issue that population is rising, and food production is stagnant. India's climate is humid, temperate, promotes growth of pests and hence western-level of food preservation is unattainable. But improvements can be made by shifting warehouses to dry regions, and having a procedure by which commons of state can expel/replace warehouse dept's chief.

Destroying food security of India, and making import dependent was one of prime goal of IMF, WB, MNCs and Vatican. Ministers like ABV etc too worked very hard to ruin agriculture of India. Thanks to their hard work, Indian agriculture is now ruined and will take us at least 5-10 years to set it right. The problem is not irrigation, but the fact that commons' don’t have money to buy food.

Since commons don’t buy grains and pulses, the farmers move away from grains and pulses and invest in sugar, fruits, milk, eggs, meat etc. If commons had money to buy grains and pulses, grain and pulse would have been profitable enough and farmers would not have moved into sugar, fruits, milk, meat, eggs etc

alt

By giving land rent and mines' royalties to us commons, we can raise incomes of us commons that they will buy more grains and pulses. This will raise the prices of grains and pulses, but still per capita consumption will increase. The raise in price will make grains and pulses profitable and so farmers will move away from sugar, fruits, milk, eggs, meat etc and put more lands for pulses and grains. This will eventually restore food sufficiency in grains and pulses.

We don’t have to wait for giant schemes like river linking, whose feasibility is not even proven. The key issue is that commons do not have money to buy grain even at Rs 10/kg of wheat and Rs 25/kg pulses. And the new prices are now Rs 12/kg and Rs 50/kg. And at Rs 12/kg wheat, farmer doesn’t get much that would motivate him

 The few solutions could be:

1) decrease in growth rate of population

2) better awareness among farmers about agricultural sciences

3) Ban constructions on agricultural lands.. if a farmer needs to sell it maybe it could be bought by government and reallotted to some one having better funding..

4) Lessen the loss of food produced caused by floods or drafts.

 Short Term Solution:

1. Rotation of crops.

2. Choice for alternate food habits.

3. Cut down on non-vegetarian and alcohol consumption.

 Long Term Solution:

1. Population Control.

2. Connecting Rivers (in India) and also around the world other countries have to adapt to this idea.

3. Preserving forests to preserve the environment.
