Recently I visited the holy town Rameswaram which is an island in the east coast of the Tamilnadu. After taking holy bath at Agni theertham (sea), I took holy baths in 22 other theerthams(wells) situated inside the corridor of the Ramanatha swamy temple. This Ramanathaswamy temple has the Asia’s largest corridor.

After seeing various temples in and around Rameswaram, I came to know about Dhanushkodi which is the southern tip of the Rameswaram island. Dhanushkodi was once a busy town with Railway station, School, Customs Office, Post office, Police station and had Ferry service to Srilanka which is only 15 Kms from there.

But it is a land of sand now due to 1964 cyclone which washed away the entire town and lives of 1800 people in the town and lives of 115 passengers of train which entered the town.

Dhanushkodi can be reached only by mini trucks or jeeps . We can see two seas on either sides one is roaring and another is calm. By truck we can reach upto Arichamunai which is the end point. And we can see the destroyed Railway station, church, school, customs office which are the symbol of once a busy town now no man’s land.
