Where is Assam?

Assam is a  beautiful state in North Eastern part of India and the country which borders Assam includes Bhutan and Bangladesh.Assam is popularlyknown the land of the red river and blue hills and it is the gateway to the North Eastern part of India.The term "Assam"  means “Peerless” and it is derived from the ancient language called as Ahom.The image below the shows the beautiful view of Assam

The seven states, which is also called as the seven sister states that surrounds Assam includes

1)Arunachal Pradesh

3)Manipur

4)Mizoram

5)Tripura

6)Meghalaya

7)West Bengal - All the above states  are connected to the rest of India via a narrow strip in West Bengal whoch is famously called as Siliguri Corridor or also known as "Chicken's Neck".

To be specific about its location, Assam is situated between 90-96 degree East Longitute and 24-28 degree North Latitude.

Road Route:

Guwahati is well connected with other parts of the country by  National Highways an it is alos  the connector city of NH - 31, 37 and 40 with the other cities of India by road.

Rail Route:

Apart from the Roadways Assam also has a convenient railway network, which connects the state to the rest of the country. There are train services from Kolkata, New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Cochin and Trivandrum. B.G. line connection is up to Dibrugarh and M.G. line with Haflong and Silchar.

Air Route:

The International Airport which is present in Assam is "The Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport" at Guwahati which is  18 km from the city centre and it is also well connected to various cities in India like New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai and all sorts of flights like Indian Airlines, Air Sahara, Jet Airways, Air Deccan, Kingfisher Airlines, SpiceJet and Indigo are available and they operate regular flights to and from Guwahati.Apart from this Air India  operates an international weekly flight between Bangkok and Guwahati.

Population and Literacy of Assam

According to the 2001 census Assam has a population of 26,655,528, compare d to its population at 1991 which was 22,400,000.Dispur is the capital city of Assam.The people of Assam are from diferent origin and mainly they re from Myanmar origin,and the majority of the population are Hindu, along with a large minority of Muslims, Buddhists and Christians. The offiical Language is Assamese and it is closely related to Bengal.Assam has a moderate Literacy rate of  63 percent. There are 5 university present in Assam and it includes

Climate and River

Brahmaputra is the most important river that flows throug Assam and it enters in the northeast and flows in a southwesterly direction and also this river is navigable from the Bay of Bengal to the city of Dibrugarh.

Assam has a very humid and  subtropical climate, with extremely heavy rainfall which usually ranges from about 1,800 to nearly 2,500 mm  per year. They have a maximum temperature of 23 degree celsius during January and more than 30 degree during Julay.Assam is also subjected to floods and earthquakes.
