The Eurotunnel between Britain and France is 50 kilometers long. If all the soil and rock from the tunnel were piled up, it would be as tall as the Eiffel tower!

In olden days, this bridge could be lifted on two sides from the middle. It was done to all big ships pass from here. But now the bridge has been fixed. The big ships do not come up to Kolkata now. They stop Diamond Harbor which is a seaport of Kolkata.
Kolkata is situated is situated on the banks of river Hoogely. It is the capital of west Bengal. Kolkata is about 130 kilometers from the sea. It is connected with the sea through the river Hoogely. Kolkata is the first Indian city which has underground railway system, called the metro. Now Delhi, too, has the metro. It is the only Indian city where trams are still in use.
The climate of Kolkata is neither very hot nor very cold. During the rain season there are heavy rains. Then weather becomes quite hot and damp.
Kolkata’s main industry is jute processing. Some other industries are textiles, footwear, vehicles, chemicals, electrical goods, iron and steel.
Kolkata has a number of tourist spots. Some of them are the Victoria memorial, the Birla planetarium, the fort William, the national library, the Ravindra sarovar, the botanical Gardens and the Alipur zoo.
Most people in Kolkata speak Bengali. They celebrate a number of festivals. But Durga Puja is the most popular. It is celebrated with great joy and devotion for ten days.
