Sensitivity towards animals
Govind works in a farm. He takes care of the horses. He understands that, like us, they too have feelings. They also feel hurt when they are not treated well.
Govind does the following jobs.
a) He keeps the stables neat and clean.
b) He gives food to the horses. Their food consists of fodder, chana (gram) and gur (jaggery).
c) He gives the horses a bath
d) He takes them out daily to exercise.
e) He makes sure that they get enough rest.
f) He has fitted horseshoes on their hooves. They protect their hooves.
g) He takes the horses to a veterinary doctor for regular checkups and vaccination.
Domestic animals should be given proper food and enough rest
*Animals like donkeys, mules, buffaloes and oxen are used to pull heavy loads. These animals are called `beasts of burden’.
* Polo a game played by two teams on horseback.
Animals work
1) Animals like horses, elephants, camels, bullocks, ponies and yaks are used to take goods and people from one place to another.
2) A two –wheeled carried drawn by a single horse is called a Tonga.
3) A four –wheeled carriage drawn by two or more horses is called a buggy.
4) Camels and yaks are used in deserts and mountains respectively
5) We must love animals and be sensitive towards them.
Horses
In earlier times, messengers on horseback traveled long distance to deliver messages. After we learnt to make carts, horses were used to pull it. Kings used horses to pull their chariots.
A two –wheeled carriage drawn by a single horse is called a Tonga. It is a common mode of transport in the small towns of north India. A four wheeled luxuries carriage drawn by two or more horses is called a buggy. For many years after independence, the president of India used to arrive in a buggy on the Republic day.
Horses are also used in the battlefield. In some parts of India, the groom arrives on horseback on the day of the marriage. Horses are also used to play polo.
