Woman an easy sexual target in our society

a6Women in India are standing on an intersection thinking to choose their ways, as they do not see a clear path leading them to a certain direction where they are safe from the age-old male dominated society of our country especially when the women have changed and become independent in many fields. Women are doing far better in different fields but unfortunately the male behavior towards them is not changing but getting worse and the women are still ‘items’ which they think a commodity to ‘use and through’. The male society is doing the same in some cases and if we go by the increased numbers of atrocities committed on women, you can see it clearly. Women considered as ‘sex toys’ by some people, who think they can use them as per their wish.

There is another side of the coin, which clearly shows the fact that no one turns into a sex maniac overnight, but their upbringing is responsible to act that way. We shall have to go deeper into their mentality to understand them in better terms because if we have to keep our women safe from such bad elements, we shall have to look at the root of the problem. This is not easy as we think that punishing a few who are reported or highlighted would solve the matter. The problem of women, sex behavior and our society needs deep thinking by every section of our society in detail to get rid of this social evil.

Women suffer mentally as well

There are thousands of women who molested by people suffering from sick mentality and the worst part is that women suffer for the bad designs of these evil thinking people with none of their faults but they are left to face the bad acts as if they were the ones who committed the a1mistakes. The women suffer immensely in form of hiding their faces from the society for the crimes committed by sex-maniacs to the point where they even think in terms of suicide. However, the questions should be asked about the fault of a woman who suffered just because she is considered weaker sex, she is not able to protect her properly while in clutches of such barbaric people who do it in gangs. Just what is the fault of a girl who stays indoors, hiding from the society and the people responsible for her condition walk freely on the roads.

Need to change drastically

Why is this horrible situation of innocent women in our country? We must act immediately to change the situation if we think we are a cultured and educated society otherwise we do not have any right to think we are a democracy where every one has same rights without any discrepancy of cast, sex or social status. We have yet to a lot to do into this matter before we can count ourselves in the list of socially developed nations. We do not deserve to be called a civil society as long such crimes keep taking place against our innocent women. Now the time has come when we should wakeup and see to it that we do not tolerate such people dealing strictly with them in every possible way including punishment as well as awareness programs.

We expect a change now to protect women

a2Now so much has been said and people from every walk of life have displayed their disappointment with so much of expectancy but most of the activities have no effect on people who matter. Our legislative system in fact is not competent for a single reason that they have no willpower to act unless vote bank is not involved. However, they must think that half the population of this country is suffering from atrocities and the rest half is also related to them therefore they must consider this as big vote bank matter and act as soon as possible to remain in context. They should change the law without any further delay and setup fast track courts to deal with such offences to see to it that such criminals get their due punishment before it is too late. They should not get a chance to destroy the proofs and walk Scott free to make public think that the law is not working properly or not going in right direction. People should have their trust intact in law and its enforcement agencies that the law would win ultimately.

We have to do a lot for women's protection

a3The increased number in atrocities against women demands from lawmakers to punish them more severely to stop some of the people by making them afraid of serious consequences because the present law is not competent to punish them enough. Let us have a look at the present provisions and situation as far punishment, situation and pending cases-

A- Provision of ten years maximum jail term for a rapist
B- Same is the case for criminals involved in gang rape or in rare cases a life term
C- More than 60,000 cases  of such crimes not taken up, resolved hearing or pending at judgmental stage
D- Only 25% of rape cases ever reach to a decision
E- Almost 90% rape cases not reported or registered
F- Police handles  the girls badly
G- Police mishandles cases registered
H- Police almost always sides with accused and destroys proofs
I- There is no proper forensic expertise or hospitals do not use such facilities available
J- Police have no proper training to investigate such cases
K- Disrespectful enquiry methods in police stations and courts

Drastic changes need of the hour

a4There is an urgent need to change the system immediately especially attitude of police is most dissatisfactory which needs to be changed to make things better. Police would have to take serious actions against cases of eve teasing, sexual harassments, and bad comments. The government would have to develop more ways to register complaints without even going to police stations through email or SMS. There should be more help lines/reporting facilities where reports could be registered successfully and action taken immediately and most of all culprits brought to book without fail. Police will have to be strict without taking into account the social status or influence of the criminals

I feel ashamed for our sexual behavior toward women

I am no more interested to be insulted being a part of the society where -

  1. a5A girl is not safe in her mother’s womb or outside of it
  2. I am so sorry to be part of a society where rape and atrocities are common against women
  3. This country is not the right place for my daughter thankfully; she no more lives in this country
  4. The law must change, the mindset must change, and the country must change-NOW
  5. Our political system is so forgetful that they will forget all about incidents against women as soon as it suits them.
  6. May I ask our politicians who say that they have daughter too that what kind of protection do we have for our daughters as compared to ‘Z’ protection they have for their daughters.
