Will bowlers pull the match for India?
The famed Indian batting line up surprisingly had an off day caving in for a modest 245 in 48.2 overs in the final against Sri Lanka being played at Mirpur, Bangladesh. While it is only natural to be critical for the batting collapse one should actually appreciate the application the batsman have shown more so considering the fact that they recovered from a paltry 60 for 5 to post a modest 245 which actually is a fighting score. It is natural for any individual or a team to have a off day and in this regard it was the turn of our batsmen who had a off day after giving sterling performances in the last couple of years.
In one way the Indian batting debacle is a blessing in disguise for it has presented the bowlers with a golden opportunity to redeem themselves for their poor showing over a consistently long period of time. The Chappel brothers have always been critical of Indians but for once Ian Chappel was right in his criticism of Indian bowlers stating that if India is desirous of holding on to the top spot in rankings over a longer period then they should work on their bowling for the current set of bowlers have not churned out good performances in the last one year or so.
In the last couple of years our bowlers have taken shelter under mammoth scores in all forms of the game as our batsmen have been plundering runs in all forms of the game with remarkable consistency. Whatever be the final outcome of the match, the end result favours India. If Sri Lankans chase down the target comfortably it means a wake up call to skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, team management and selectors and if Indian bowlers pull the match for India, then good days are in store for Indian cricket as we can boast of a team well balanced in bowling and batting.
At the time of submitting this article, bowlers have made a good start with Ashish Nehra who of late is known for leaking runs getting the wicket of Upul Tharanga. If India sustains the momentum and wins the match that should be great news for millions of Indian fans.
