Mediocre tri series
Even before a single ball has been bowled one can safely say that the tri series hosted by Zimbabwe which will be played from 28th May till 9th June will probably the most forgettable one day series ever played in the last two decades .
To begin with the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh and Mahendra Singh Dhoni are not playing the tournament. The likes of Sachin and company apart being the mainstays of the team are the biggest crowd pullers and that is going to hurt the organizers in a big way. To complicate matters the absence of big names is bound to affect the viewership too in a big way.
If India are without superstars Sachin and company, then Sri Lanka is without Sanath Jayasuriya who is their most important player. Even the support cast in the Sri Lanka in the form of Jaywardene and company is missing. The end result is the tri series would be a competition between two depleted teams and Zimbabwe probably the weakest team in international cricket.
To compound matters hosts Zimbabve have the dubious distinctionof starting as underdogs as both the depleted teams are expected to cruise to the finals at the expense of Zimbabwe. With one dayers losing its charm thanks to advent of T20 cricket, it would have been better off if ICC would have cancelled this tournament in the best interests of the game.
The end result from this tournament would be mediocre stuff and tiring players.
