Cricket is the winner
In my previous article I had mentioned that the ongoing tri series between India, Sri Lanka and hosts Zimbabwe would be the most forgettable series ever to be played considering the fact the tournament involved two depleted teams and Zimbabwe who are not good enough even to give a fight leave alone winning a match.
Contrary to what I have written, the tournament threw couple of surprise results prior to yesterdays match between Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe which the former won convincingly and I am happy that I have been proven wrong because cricket has been the winner in the ultimate analysis. In the first match of the tournament Zimbabwe easily chased a target of 285 which is not the easiest of targets to chase and considering the fact that Zimbabwians are on par with minnows in international cricket the target of 285 was really a imposing one. It was nice to see to Zimbabwians team show strength of character to win the contest.
If Zimbabwe's upset of India was not enough, the tournament threw a second surprise in the very next match when Indians a much more depleted team than the Sri Lankans comfortably won against the Sri Lankans. Apart from the first two matches throwing surprise results the tourmament also saw some surprise individual performances as Rohit Sharma usually a under performer considering his immense talent surprisingly came good in both the matches reeling successive tons.
With Sri Lanka winning their league match against Zimbabve all three teams are on par in the tournament with one win and win defeat and that is heartening for cricket lovers and lovers of Zimbabve cricket in particular.
