Muttiah Muralitharan, the sri Lankan off spinner announced his retirement today.

He is the world leading wickets taker in both one day and test cricket.

He has decided to retire after the test match against India which is to be play on July 18th, at the end of this month in Galle. But will be available for World Cup 2011 if a suitable replacement for him is not available.

He is famously called by name Murali.

Muttiah Muralitharan was born on 17th April 1972 in Kandy.

He made debut to international Test cricket against Australia at Colombo on Aug 28th, 1992.In which he has taken only 3 wicket but made an impression to be most promising blower, after which he never look back.

He made debut to international One-day cricket against India at Colombo on Aug 12, 1993 In which he managed to take only one wicket but was good in economy.

Right-arm off break spinner, Muttiah Muralitharan has average of 6 wickets per test match.

He is now currently the top wickets taker in a Test with 792 wickets in a pocket, only player head of Shane Warne.

He is also a top wickets taker in a one-day cricket with 515.

Muttiah Muralitharan remained the most controversial player in a cricket history, starting from his blowing action to his doosra. He has to undergo biomechanical analysis and was cleared by the International Cricket Council in 1996. His doorsa help him to grab many wicket in his pocket.

He is currently only 8 wickets short to achieve the target of 800 wickets in a test cricket. Hope he can do that.

He is the only player of Indian-origin in the Srilanka cricket team.

The world will go to miss the magical blowing of Muttiah Muralitharan.
