It is a well known fact that in India  all of us are  passionate about cricket.  People say cricket is our religion.  Even though cricket is our passion, our emotions are not  controlled  by cricket or  our cricketers but  strangely enough by by our media, especially the electronic media in particular.

Just look at the recent tri series which Indian won.  When India won the first match, media started praising our cricketers sky high saying that India are now the No.1 team in the world.  The very next match when India lost the next match to Sri Lanka, same media were excessively critical condemning our cricketers for the margin in which they lost the match.  Once India defeated Sri Lanka in the final, the media wasted no time in again praising our cricketers.

One thing all of us should understand, winning or losing is part of the game.  When 2 teams take part in a match, only 1 can win and there has to be a loser.  After all our cricketers too are human and we cannot expect them to win every match.  No team in the world, whichever sport they represent are guaranteed of winning every match.

It has happened so many times in the past that listening to criticism of our cricketers, that people have burnt effigies of our cricketers, pelted stones at them or burnt their houses. If that is not enough, going to the extreme, cricketers are worshipped like Gods, if they play well.  I feel media should concentrate more on development of the nation rather than gathering publicity for their channels.
