Yuvraj-The Exceptional Talent
Yuvraj Singh is a cricketer whose emergence into Indian cricket was hailed by the knowledgeable circles as beginning of an exciting cricketer. With occasional purple patches in his career he has failed to realize his rich cricketing talents. His father Yograj Singh too was endowed with exceptional talents. There was a time when his all round abilities earned him a place beside one the greatest all rounders of all time Karil Dev. After playing a few he Test matches he somewhat lost his way and faded out of Indian cricket which is one of the cricketing tragedies. And being a son of such talented cricketer Yuvraj has inherited this natural talent from his father. He made his debut under Saurav Gangully's captaincy who was insturmental in bringing a crop of new talented cricketers like Harbhajan Singh, Virender Shewag and others into the national side. Saurav, one of the most successful captains in the history of Indian cricket, did not take much of time to spot in Yuvraj the talent of an extraordinary cricketer .
Who can forget Yuvraj's memorable debut in one-dayers. And too in a match against the all-conquering Australian Team which consisted of all-time greats both in batting and bowling and Average made an awe-inspiring quick fire 84 which toppled Australia in the Nairobi Mini World Cup 2000-2001. Apart from his awesome batting prowess he is a left arm spinner and swung his arm with great success. But it is in the department of fielding that he has acquired formidable reputation all over the world.
In the years that followed what he displayed was occasional flashes of his brilliance. His big and clean hitting is a sight too divine for words. Even as recently as in the inaugural T-20 tournament he set up a world record of hitting six consecutive sixes!
Despite all these scintillating achievements there are critics who maintain that Yuvraj has not done justice to his talents and needs to work out his attitude problems. There are instances of soft dismissals which could be attributed to his lack of seriousness. Let us hope that this exceptional talent finally blossoms as his thousands of admirers want him to.
