2018 World Cup to Russia
On December 2, 2010, FIFA announced its selection for the countries in 2018 and 2022 were organizing the World Cup. Netherlands with Belgium had applied for the toenooi in 2018, but had to compete against other candidates Spain / Portugal, Russia and England. Despite the great efforts of the Ambassadors of The Netherlands Belgium Bid is ultimately for Russia and 2018 winner came in 2022 and Qatar may organize the World Cup.
The FIFA World Cup takes place every four years, and for the World Cup tournament in 2018, all candidate countries, excluding countries of the continents where the two previous tournaments have taken place. In the case of 2018 that countries from Africa and South America. Sepp Blatter, the president of FIFA, had already announced that the vote in 2008, also called "bid", for the tournament in 2018 and 2022 would occur at the same time, namely in Zurich on December 2, 2010.
The selection process for 2018 and 2022, the 21st and 22nd edition of the World, began in January 2009 and countries had until February 2, 2009 to stand as candidates. The 22 members of the FIFA Executive Committee decided on December 2, 2010, with the host country for 2022 should come not from the same continent as the host in 2018.
There is a preference for a single country over a combination of the two countries, FIFA has identified that this is particularly true for large countries. Blatter about it: "Large countries that are able to organize only one World Cup only need to submit an application. Smaller countries not only be able to organize a World Cup must work together with another smaller country register".
The allocation of the tournament is considered by many conditions, such as
* Availability of 12 stadiums with capacities between about 40,000 (group games) and 80,000 (opening and final)
* Infrastructure within the region where the games will be peeled
* Training and hotel facilities
* Financial stability and guarantees from the government
* The built infrastructure and facilities should be of lasting nature
* Good track record in stadium security and crowd control
Candidates for 2018
England, Russia, Spain / Portugal and Netherlands / Belgium. Mexico had earlier also candidacy but withdrew in September 2009 again, like Indonesia, where the government does not fully guarantee wished to make. As the main candidates were Russia and Britain called England, which is the deployment of Prince William, Prime Minister David Camaron and footballer David Beckham was armed to the teeth.
Russia had a major contender as expressed by Vitaly Mutko, the Minister for Sport indicated a willingness to be $ 10 trillion to invest in the organization of the tournament. President Vladimir Putin looked at the last minute of a visit to Zurich for the candidacy of Russian force in place and said: "FIFA is the victim of a smear campaign and should its decision rest should be taken, without any pressure from outside ". Finally, Russia has designated as host country.
The combination Netherlands / Belgium, at first presented as a Benelux Luxembourg but could not really contribute, had little chance from the beginning, not at all the requirements of FIFA was the first instance by the Dutch government wholeheartedly said yes and there is No stadium with a capacity of 80,000 seats. In March 2009 the Rotterdam city council decided to develop a stadium for 2018. In November 2009, the Belgian sites announced: Antwerp, Brugge, Brussels, Charleroi, Genk, Ghent and Liege while the places in the Netherlands Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Eindhoven, Enschede and Heerenveen on the program.
It was also known early on that FIFA is still the color represents the organization in the hands of a country. However, there was a small hope that FIFA, plagued by a number of corruption scandals, could opt for countries like the Netherlands and Belgium that the area beyond any suspicion.
The five other bids, Australia, South Korea, Japan, Qatar and the United States apply only to the tournament in 2022. Since all bids for 2018 from European countries come and FIFA rules dictate that countries from the continent one of the two previous tournaments, reorganized, not compete, European countries in 2018 behind the net catching, no chance in 2022 and the above countries are the only candidates. This also applies to the Netherlands. It was 2018 or nothing! On December 2, the FIFA Executive Committee decided to Qatar in 2022.
It is a pity that all the efforts and investments of governments, ambassadors, led by Ruud Gullit, and sponsors the desired results, the Netherlands, as a football nation a reputation to uphold and there was the World Cup tournament in 2018 a significant role into play. Yet it is regrettable that the Netherlands and Belgium due to the above allocation rules not only in 2022 but got no chance, like all other European countries, nor be able to take things for 2026. So we will have to set our sights on 2030, and that is still quite a while to go!
