The world has seen another God’s hand goal. Yes, the history created by Maradona in 1986 is repeated after 23 years. This article is about the final stages of the qualification for the World cup football, to be held next year (2010) in South Africa. Most importantly we will also discuss about the hand goal, by the French captain Thierry Henry against Ireland which has resulted in lots of controversies and also opposition from the Ireland players and fans.

The biggest event in the sports arena, which has more number of viewers than that of Olympics, is Football World Cup, which will take place in South Africa from June 11 to July 11, 2010.So qualifying matches were played all over the world around 204 countries for the 32 places in the world cup and recently a controversy occurred.

France and Ireland played recently and the winner will eventually qualify for the World cup 2010.Ireland started off well, thanks to Roby Keane, who struck the first goat for Ireland and also took the lead. As a matter of fact Ireland should win the match for qualifying, and even a draw will allow France to qualify, based on the aggregate score.

So Ireland was all set to win the match as they were leading till the last minute of the game and the controversy occurred during the extra time. France got a free kick opportunity and at this time Henry passed the ball with the help of his hand, which helped William to score the goal for France and also drew the match and moreover made his country qualified for the World cup.

That’s it, everybody knew that Henry used the hand and the controversy started and the players asked the referee, but the decision was unchanged. The latest news is that Ireland also asked for a rematch against France in Paris, and FIFA is yet to make any decision on this. The umpire from Sweden Martin, who approved the goal said, he was really unaware that Henry used his hand as the ball went very fast. And in the other match Slovenia shattered Russia’s dream for qualifying to the World cup, as they beat Russia 1-0.
