Hi friends in this article let us discuss about one of the important event in the world, i.e. The Commonwealth games, which is considered as the biggest sporting event with maximum number of participant from many countries only next to  Olympics. The latest commonwealth games was held at Australia in 2006 and this is our turn, because New Delhi will host the 2010 Commonwealth games. It was a tough task for our country, but still we can hope that we will successfully organize and finish the games, without any problems. With less than 1 year left for the games start, the preparation is going at a rapid rate, to meet the deadline.

Commonwealth games are nothing but the games which are conducted between the nations, which was under the British rule. In other words we can say that British Commonwealth countries will participate in this event. The Commonwealth games were earlier called as British Empire Games. This game usually takes place between four years and approximately more than 70 countries used to participate in these games. The first ever Commonwealth games were held at Hamilton, Canada in the year 1930, and like Olympics these games also has different events and thousands of players from different countries.

Suresh Kalmadi is the chairman of the organizing committee and also the president of Indian Olympic Committee (IOC) has a great task left behind, to make sure that the games are at the best and also the infrastructures are completed within the deadline. One important task that he must give priority is that the security and this is a great chance for India to prove the world that India is the safe place and any tourist can come to our country and enjoy the beauty of the country without any kind of fear in their mind.

Recently I watched his interview in CNN IBN. It was indeed a great interview. I am not sure how many people are aware of the famous TV interview in CNN IBN, called as the “Devil’s Advocate” and all the famous personality was interviewed by Karan Tharpar. I assure you guys, he just screws them and asks all the questions and we can see those people who are interviewed struggle to find a answer. Karan is simply great and he is a people’s representative, as he asks each and very question that we people wish to ask those personalities, and the show is simply superb.

Coming to the Tarpar’s interview with IOC president, Suresh Kalmadi, he eventually asked all the doubts which were in the minds of the game. He also asked Kalmadi, whether the government is allotting new member as they don’t believe Suresh. But Suresh managed well and he said that he was the person who asked for extra team members from the government and he also ensured that the government is giving its full support to him. Tharpar also asked from the people point of view, that millions of people wants him to resign from the post, and to this Suresh replied these are all false news published by the papers and news media.

When asked about the speculations which says that Kalmadi has lost his credibility to be the chairman, he replied that this will be one of the best Commonwealth games ever conducted in the history and also asked Tharpar to interview him once the game is finished and at that time people know his credibility also will come to know that the team formed by him was very efficient in conducting the Commonwealth games at an international standard and that too with perfect infrastructures.

But couple of months ago, we would have seen the TV channels reporting that the preparations for the Commonwealth games were going beyond the schedule and they might not meet the deadline. This created lot of tension and curiosity among the people, because this is not just a game, this is also a prestige issue and India should desperately conduct this game as per schedule and prove the world that we are capable of conducting any type of international events. Moreover if we conduct the commonwealth games successfully then we will have the confidence of applying for the Olympic event and not only that the world can understand that India is capable of conduction Olympic Games and this is going to be a great boost for the country.

The games in India will commence from October 3 to 14, 2010 in New Delhi. Even though there are speculations that construction was not going at a rapid pace, IOC believes that they can finish the construction before the schedule. Recently Kalmadi also asked the government for 50 officers form Army, for assisting the job. Apart from this there are large number of volunteers also joined the team to help the Government in organizing the game.

Government takes necessary steps in helping the IOC for the organization of the game both on the financial and also in terms of man power. Earlier the government has allotted 700 crores for the project, but due to shortage and also after being asked by IOC, Government has raised the funds to 1600 crores and this encourages the organizing team so that they could finish the job in time. The Government also appointed a committee to look after how the funds are being spent and this step is to make sure that the funds are not being misused.

So this game is more than a sporting event and the prestige of our country lies in this. Top concern being the security, the committee must make sure that enough training is given to the army and police who look after the security and enough precaution rehearsals must be done, because this is how many countries prepare themselves before organizing a huge event, so that they could manage and tackle and type of problems. Let us hope that the Games takes place smoothly without any problems and more over, India being the host nation must win lots of medals also.
