On seeing the architectural building and historical places,it is evident that the Indians including all kingdoms have showed their mighty of architectural interest. Especially in south India, pandya, chera and chola kingdom served a lot towards architectural structures and buildings.We can see many examples for their thought of art and work.

Thirumalai Nayakkar Mahal,is one of the great examples for the architectural work of Pandya kingdom.It is situated in Madurai,temple city of TamilNadu. For ite beauty and style, it is famously known as TajMahal of South India. This palace records its history back to 17th century.It was built by Nayaka dynasty who ruled the Madurai region in 17th century.This palace served as King's home when the Nayakkar kings shifted their capital from Trichy to Madurai.This palace is situated near to the Meenakshi Amman temple which is the center of the Madurai city.

The present building structure is only one fourth of the original construction which was built by the Nayaka Kings. Other three parts of the magnificent building was destroyed by various people for many reasons. Now,the present part was saved and became as an exhibit to people.The construction of the palace was a mystery yet. Approximately,the palace holds 248 pillars and each pillar is big in the diameter.Thus,the pillars are famous for the regional simile " Like thirumalai nayakkar mahal pillar".These pillars are coated with egg shells which are specially made.

The wonderful paintings and designs which are imparted in the palace tells the embarrassing architectural taste of the Nayaka Kings.This palace was built in both Dravidian and Islamic style of architecture. A small Museum was also there containing statues and records which stand for the evidence of Nayakkar Kings. You can visit the museum at day time only.

               The Thirumalai Nayakkar Mahal stands for more than 375 years exhibiting the glory of Nayakkar Kings attracts the tourists of all country. People can visit the palace during daytime. Now the palace is under the control of tourism department. At evenings, light shows are conducted by the tourist department to expose the history and cultural heritage of Nayakkar Kings. Prior booking in the form of ticket should be taken for light shows. Really hats-off to the great palace.
