There is lot of truth in what Pearl Leo has to say about 'factor of leadership'. In West Bngal, Jyoti Basu leadership was largely a big contributory factor to a historically longest rule by a political alliance. Also Mamata Banerjee's leadership contributed to defeat of the left front. In Kerala also, leadership of the ex C.M. enabled C.P.I. (M) get highest number of seats even though losing to the Congress led alliance. In Tamilnadu, this was more or less a clash between personalities of Karunanidhi and Jay Lalithaa.

I also agree that many people are oposed to dynastic rule. But even then a good majority are inclined to influence by personalities. The cult of personality works in most states and also in non political domain.

The main issue in the discussion is whether the elections to state assemblies endorse the U.P.A. policies at center. As discussed at length in the foregoing posts, the election results are more about performance of state governments than U.P.A. at center.
