Pornography or porn is the depiction of explicit sexual subject matter for the purposes of sexual excitement.Pornography may use any of a variety of media, ranging from books, magazines, postcards, photos, sculpture, drawing, painting, animation, sound recording, film, video, or video game. However, when sexual acts are performed for a live audience, by definition it is not pornography, as the term applies to the depiction of the act, rather than the act itself. Thus, portrayals such as sex shows and striptease are not classified as pornography.

Freedom of expression is of paramount importance in a democratic country. The government should work for administration of the affairs of nation in accordance with mandate and constitution of India. Spirit of democracy lies in leaving it to the people to decide what they want to eat, wear and enjoy. Banning any type of literature, film or media- even if pornograp0hic- is undemocratic and infringement on rights of people. It is not job of government or the ruling circles to prescribe what is good for people. The government must have no authority to restrict pornography. sex is an important and inseparable component of life and its depiction in art in the name of banning pornography is not acceptable. It is also an undisputed fact that pornography is not necessarily obscene. The caves of Ajanta and Elora testify this view. In case any sort of censor is required, this should be by citizens committee consisting of artists, jurists and other eminent people from different walks of life. There can be some reasonable precautions like giving warning that the material may be offensive to some or this contains adult content. Restriction may also be on basis of age.

Yes, I do believe that all porn should be banned. BUT The problem then becomes defining what porn is. This is where we run into trouble. One person's porn could very well be another person's art. Here is what I consider to be a pretty good working definition of porn. Porn is any written or visual media that is produced and/or viewed with the intent to produce sexual arousal. That is a pretty simple definition, but it relies on intent. This is where we run into trouble. I think that we can agree that there is a lot of material that is obviously pornographic in nature.

So it is obviously impossible to ban pornography which has its roots all over the world.

There is also a lot of material that is just as obviously not pornographic. However, there is a very broad gray areain between these two groups.

For example, the photos in a lingerie catalog are not produced specifically to cause sexual arousal. They are produced to sell the lingerie. However, this does not stop someone from using the catalog to get aroused. Similarly, there is a great deal of classical art that is intended to celebrate the human form. The artist may not have been thinking sexually when he produced it, but others may view it in that context. On the other hand, I saw something recently in which someone was trying to take a bunch of artistic and decorative objects that had absolutely nothing to do with sex and turn them into phallic symbols. So, where do we draw the line between art and porn? Legally, there is no way to really do this. So, while I may like to ban all porn, I recognize that such ban would be very difficult to enact in a way that would not infringe upon legitimate art.

Hi Devigan,

I don't agree to your view.I think pornography should be banned. But complete ban is not required, instead there should have a screening to the sites.

Today internet is used for good purpose as well as bad purposes. One of the bad purpose is this ponographic sites.According to them it is their business and in a business some looks morality while some does not.For education purpose some sites may be retained. But those sites with excessive ponographic content should be permanantly banned and deleted.

Also one more thing when we all can say that porn should be BANNED...Ask a question to yourself then: Is it possible to ban porn...You cannot ban porn.

Actually you cannot correctively say what PORN means...then where does banning this comes...

I agree with you only on this. The same freedome is there for all to lead a healthy and moral life.Man should not be like animals. He has a culture. He should have shame to do sex in open unlike animals. So he should also have shame to look at others immoral activities and should rise his hand to prevent them.Else as you told if it is his right as a citizen , a nation cannot exist because all human activities will be explained as his needs.

By Democracy it does not mean he has right to do anything. He has some rights and some restrictions.he has to obey them all.In autocracy he has no right , only restrictions. That is the difference.

So for the well being of a nation crimes should be reduced. Most of the sexual crimes comes after viewing sites like this and hence it should be banned.

Anu_love is life - Rightly stated porn cannot be banned. first problem is of defining it. The stage of permissiveness changes from time to time. Kissing was not allowed in earlier films. Now this is more common. The exposure of body is now more permissible. Actually porn lies not in the content but in the mindset. The Jain Sadhus are nude. Many hermits just wear a langoti that does not cover the hind portion of their body. Only frontal portion is covered. Moreover, this is a sheer waste of time in dealing with such matters, when the government has more important jobs- like eradication of poverty, illiteracy, unemployment. There are millions who have no clothes to wear. Then bothering about nudity, obscenity and pornography is of no use.
