    @Sandhya

    Like everything Santiniketan too is afflicted by a crisis of values.Ideals which inspired Tagore to set up this institution started leaving it soon after his departure from the scene! Its culmination could be seen in the theft of the very Nobel Prize medallion which still remains untraced today!!

    Ya, good from the old one's should be added. But our present education system is not adding them. That's well reflected and as Chinmayjee told, new education system is not helping India to bring good scientists or mathematicians. I think our education system has changed once we got independence. To afford new learnings, many good and old things are forgotten. Am I right?

    There is nothing wrong with other professions apart from engineers and doctors which are as popular, like advocates, Chartered accountants, teachers, architects, designers, management professionals, bankers, bakers, tailors, home decorators, fashion designer all part of the opportunities available, for instance mass media is one of the most in-thing and as reputable ad respected job as any. In addition, these all come in to expert category.
    This list is an only a small part of the so vast to follow as we should not forget writing jobs which are as hot, therefore if the children today are doing there all out efforts to do better in this age of cut throat competition, there is nothing wrong in that. That is no burden but kind of need today. Whatever they will today will come in handy all through their lives.

    Everyone needs to make a career. There is nothing wrong in parents and elders to help and encourage the child to advance and secure a good career. But what is worrying is that the elders are over zealous and attempt to thrust upon the child against natural inclination and aptitude. The child should be encouraged to develop the talent in the filed in which he is best. A child's aptitude is clearer at secondary level. If a child is not good in biology, it will be wrong to thrust medical profession on him. A child's good performance in subjects like language, civics, history may indicate his suitability for teaching, tourism, hotel, law etc. The attempt to force child in studies or career for which he is not suitable will depress him all life and he is deprived of the career that he would otherwise successfully make in appropriate area.

    There is absolutely nothing wrong in the attempts and ambitions of the parents to seek career advancements for their wards but the whole problem stems from their desires in promoting their careers (parents') by proxy!!What we are experiencing at the moments is specialization and diversification which is in tune with the global phenomenon and no skepticism need be harbaoured about its desirability. In indian context the cause of quality education faces formidable pressures from moneybags! A doctor failing to get his son admitted through the normal process preferring the route of private medical colleges and the society
    get a doctor of questionable merit!!

    I came across quite an interesting report about multinational companies recruting engineers from campus from a famous and one of the leading government engineering colleges in West Bengal and in India too complaining about the poor standards of communicational English of some of the products of this college which came in the way of recruiting them.

    @Ram Prosad

    You must be knowing the college I had in mind. In fact, our daily experience with sub-standard products is too common to be related here!
