I think Reservation is not way to uplift backward people. Reservation kota should remove for any kind of people. and provide equal opportunity to all. to uplift backward people Govt. should provide extra facility to them for study and other think.

The thing we should look up for providing reservations is not the backward caste. We should look up for annual income. If he/she is having less annual income, then no one will oppose for providing reservations. Today we are seeing so many stupid employees all over the government offices due to this fault.

As our Topic is about providing Reservation to backward people,
If already there father has got this reservation benefit there children should not get any more chance and one more thing reservation should provide only the backward class who have never got any chance and who are having less income than the average income of every Indian.
The criteria is which the back ward caste who are named as so on so.. form long back. they are economically backward so to uplift the country and its people this reservations is been introduced.

What is the Present Status?

Since last 60 years reservations are being given to some sections of our society based on their caste and class irrespective of their economical background for generations together. If this policy is scientific and good, then how many of them got uplifted, to become self supportive for their next generations. If the so called process of uplifting is still incomplete even after 60 years, then the present policy of reservations is not scientific and useless.

Facts, which cannot be ignored.

Many people from the forward castes, even if their families live in penury, are kept out of the reservation quota in higher education and government jobs. Their children in spite of economical backwardness (who earn a pittance, who carry the dead in their community to the cremation ground for livelihood, who do not eat two full meals a day) are kept out of the reservation quota regime.
Some sections of the society is kept out of the reservations, in spite of their economical backwardness, just because they belong to the so called forward castes.
On the other side many people, just with a tag of reservations to their caste are enjoying with free seats in education and easy jobs in government since generations together, in spite their families got elevated to higher status socially and to above middle class economically. Since they cannot compete with real talented people openly in the private sector, they are grouping as vote banks under some selfish politicians and demanding reservations in private sector also for them.
How long this practice should continue. Is it right to uplift a section of our society, at the cost of other genuine sections. Are we not creating other suppressing sections in our society by this process? Is it a scientific way?
The objective of reservations should be solely to uplift the socially and economically backward people up to one generation only at the government cost. Then they should carry forward and take care of their next generations independently.

My opinion and solution.

I do not think reservations in the present form fetch any good for India in the long run.
“IT IS THE WORST FORM OF INEQUALITY TO TRY TO MAKE UNEQUAL THINGS EQUAL”.
It is against the natural law and is not wise to make unequal things equal.
In India (But no where in the world) since last 60 years reservations were implemented for some groups of people based on social backwardness (Not scientifically proved and valid but politically motivated) in the field of education, employment, promotions and in politics etc. This is creating an atmosphere where many un-eligible or unequal candidates grab the opportunities, and the intelligentsia gets depressed due to minimum opportunities for them, migrate to other countries and prove their talents and give best service to foreign countries and not to their nation or countrymen.
This situation can be corrected by providing free education; hostel and boarding facilities, talent and skills development programs etc by the government and NGO’s to all poor & economically backward people irrespective of their caste & religion, so that we can make their skills and intelligences improve and equally compete with all to grab the opportunities in an open ground.
In a big country like India where the natural resources are in abundant, providing equal opportunities and employment to all is not at all an impossible task, if a strong political will exist to plan and utilize them at maximum level in all possible ways. The people are ready to do hard work, providing the opportunities are open and available to them, which is not their up to the requirement at present, hence many become lazy and remain poor, depend on government for generations together. Apart from the lack of political will, vote banks and corruption are the other evils which are playing their worst role in this matter.
Hope the present and coming generations will correct this and move forward in a right direction.

Reservations were introduced in the earlier days for the uplift of backward society people, as there was caste discrimination at a high rate before the independence and still continues in a small rate.

So,after independence when the new government was built and they were trying to develop our nation. At that time the resources available for backward caste people was very less and they were struggling to come to the top of the society. They remained undeveloped.

For their development, reservation in education and employment were introduced. Now we can see many backward caste people living in a good condition and thats only because of this.

Now the question arise is , we have passed 50 years of indipendence ?

still we need reservation ?

caste discrimination is very less now and almost are getting good opportunities.

What is happening now is the misuse of this reservation.qualified people are getting very less rewards.

So,its the time to review the criteria for giving reservation.Otherwise qualified people will loose their chance and the quality of whole system will come down.

Considering caste as a main criteria for reservation should be changed.
Main criteria should be the standard of living / annual income etc. But it should be monitored efficiently.

There is no need to stop reservation...
But we have to efficiently imply..
Its time to review the criterias.. !!

Why shouldn't we have the reservations for the people who are economically backward instead of caste?

ya.. that is a good criteria to be looked in the present situation..

caste as a criteria for reservation will not be efficient in the present social condition..

In continuous with my earlier discussion above……….

As Maverick and others told above, considering economic backwardness alone for providing reservations to uplift the downtrodden people irrespective of their caste, religion etc is the best policy. But I don’t think it will be so easy to abolish caste/religion based reservations and respective vote bank politics. They both are deeply interlinked.

Alternatively, a new policy needs to be adopted, restricting the present reservations based on caste and religion, only to those who are economically backward in their respective reserved category.

Additionally around 10% reservations should be provided to the economically backward people from among the forward castes, those who are not getting any support from the government at present.

Politicians and corruption should be kept away from implementing this program. An independent constitutional body should take the responsibility, to decide the status of economical backwardness of various groups, review and revive it periodically.
Any one who enjoy the benefits of such reservations by declaring false information and producing corrupt certificates should get severe punishment and their un-declared or binami assets must be attached to the government.

This is the proper and perfect way of providing reservations to the real needy people. Over a period it may fetch us effective results which we could not achieve in the last 60 years.
