India is a muddled up nation which can be manipulated trough both caste and religion. Sometimes you wonder whether people have lost their thinking power because you see masses blindly following religious leaders and communal minded politicians. China's case is different because the masses have been under leftist rule for decades and they obey without question knowing what the consequences could be? which is hardly the case in India which has a legal system that encourages crime and criminals as we have seen in a number of high levl cases .

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

That means India does not need democracy( parliamentary type) and present legal system. We never had it in our history anyway

I honestly believe that as a nation we are still very immature and irresponsible because democracy is a double edged sword and it comes with a lot of responsibility . Ours is a nation with people who live for themselves and bow down to power regardless of who and where it comes from.

This is what I had in mind. When Hindu Raj was there, no democracy and King was equated with God. The Muslims rule followed for 9 centuries. There was no democracy then and then came the British. At least they set up a parliament but they were the omnipotent power. How can you have democracy after 4000 years? In the west democracy was nurtured with the Magna  Carta in England and the French and American revolution. We better have a government that suits Indian genius.

We are truly at crossroads , with the urban India wanting a democratic set up which is probably less than one third of the total population and majority of the rest who would be happy to be ruled by the netas. So we know it is not easy and the set up cannot change in a few years time. In the meantime politicians make merry

Yes Usha@ The educated understand and want democracy but the millions in the villages don't know anything about democracy. Its just a word for them, that's why people like Yeddyurappa and Lalu Prasad will always win-corruption or anything. India needs a strong unitary form of government the type that existed in history. Democracy may well be the Achilles heel of India 2 or 3 centuries down the line.

Chinese history is akin to India. They also never had a democracy like us. Being unitary state they can enforce laws that contain Muslim religion like stopping fasting during Ramadan, keeping beards, 4 wives, divorce and also the Muslim law of inheritance and property. No Sharia in China because it can be enforced. In a democracy like  type we have, it cannot be done. We could at least have a government like USA or France. and now Russia.

It is tragic that the best do not want democracy in India.

Democracy is the best form of governance if it stays democratic rather than partisan , discriminatory. Tragedy with India has been that democracy and secularism has become mixed up to something else that the erstwhile leaders have used to their advantage thereby confusing the citizens ..so, in effect we have never had a true democracy , just shades of it .
