Once noted Hindi poetess Maha Devi Verma thought of joining Budhism. She contacted the Bidhist center in Srilanka. She was tod that the Budhist head Mahasthivar would visit Nainital shortly where she could get initiation in Budhism.

She visited the Mashasthivir. The Budhist head monk covered his face with a fan. So, Mahadevi moved to the other side to see his face. But the head monk again covered the other part also with the fan.

Mahadevi was told that Mahasthivir never saw woman face. Mahadevi decided not to join Budhism in view of such weakness of mind and gender consciousness of the Budhist monk.

Later she became a very famous Chhayavadi Hindi poetess.
