Engineers prefer govt or public sector job more. This is obviously for security. Many ensure that either of the spouse is in government job.

    I am not sure, I think only engineers who want easy money prefer to go for government jobs. The other reason could be the benefits which government employees enjoy plus the job security.

    Earlier normal degree people were available in the country most. But now Engineers. Engineering colleges, in each and every corner of the country. So, for good jobs, competition is very tough. This may also be one reason among many ones

    Once in government jobs the best of the talented ones become very ordinary and work like clerical staff. As they find nothing much to show their expertise.

    A person who like to experiment his work with new creations should never opt for government jobs. Though it give more security and less job treat, it's not pleasing at all. It's just like putting a bird inside a golden cage with its wings cut.

    Now the present market situation is very dad and competition for each job is more. Who ever need to settle in his life with less income will prefer for govt. Jobs. :)

    Government job has its own attraction. Not only easy money, a government job gives a sense of authority or power. You may see the difference between a P.W.D. engineer and another of a contracting firm. The P.W.D. engineer is in a more dominating position.

    Moreover, generally, this is a matter of availing opportunity. I was enrolled in Border Roads Organization in sixties, when very few were aware of the organization. My father was Accounts Officer in that organization and thus I was aware of the organization.
