The benefits of skill in English are well known. Now another benefit has come to surface. This is uplift of hockey. The players can better interact with coach and other players if they know English well.

Overall benefits of English as an effective communication tool are well known not only in India, even in non- English speaking countries like Germany and Russia to name a few.

English is fine but they will have to improve their stamina and physical fitness to match with fitter and faster players, although learning English will help them communicate better.

Knowledge in English alone will not give an edge to the team. Its understood that other criteria necessary to make them champs are also equally fulfilled.
Communication is very important in all the fields especially in a team game. Players who know English can communicate well with the foreign coach off the field and with their team mates in the field.

Right, it is common is these to have a foreigner as coach. Every player should have knowledge to follow instruction of coach.
Now a days players are playing in lot of premier league tournaments in which there are a mix of both Indian and Foreign players. The communication plays a huge role in such cases.
Every game has its own sign language to communicate with other players and referees etc but to learn a few tricks of the trade they need to basics of English, which almost all payers do with time.

When the coach wishes to discuss during practice sessions about the tactics to be employed in the ensuing match, it’s the knowledge of English language that stands in good stead.

My question is - why do we need to have coaches who cannot understand our language or are we that bad in games like hockey where we cannot find a good coach from our own country. English language learning is okay but if they will spend all their three four years which they get as top players, learning Languages instead fine tuning their playing skills, I am afraid we shall never be able to win any game in future.

By the way, have you ever heard any Korean, Chines, Russian, German, Dutch hockey/badminton players speaking in English? They all are better players than us because they take pride in self language and learning skills of the game more than wasting their time on learning other languages. I must add another factor here, all these nations were far behind in hockey from us but now they are far better as far hockey is concerned.
