In fact this is one of the reasons why Chinese and Indian children do better at school than Western children in America and UK....They learn two or more languages since their birth and infancy and it does stimulate the brain...

Majority of the Indian children and of course other Asian children learn at least two languages from very early childhood, and therefore are now doing much better than their European and American counterparts!

In the case of our family we all have learnt 4 languages since it is necessary - Tulu our mother tongue, Kannada the state language,Hindi which is learnt as a third lanuage in school and of course English and I know Tamil and Konkani as well...Because we have so many dialects within a state we get to learn many more languages in India..

Learning of more than one language is always useful in life. We are lucky that India have many languages. I don't know about other states but in Rajasthan Third language is compulsory subject.
