This is very true, with a child you never know what will work on a particular day. I have met a person only yesterday who told me that his father used to cane him thrice a day on regular basis and his mother threatened him like 'let your father come' and he waited for his father to come back home. He told me he never imagined to runaway from his home despite all the punishment he got. Imagine the scene in a country where a child can report such matters to inspectors of child welfare with very sever punishment for such parents.

This may be also because in those countries, there are too many divorces and every child has to live with one or the other step parent. So govt. there needs to protect the child more than ours as here all children are with real parents.

Parenting is a full time job. Lot of patience and experimenting should go in to it. The old saying holds good here. "Save the child, spare the rod."

In UK last year an Indian couple was forced to take divorce just because their 5-6 years told to his teacher that his father was a drunkard. His mother one day said it jokingly which the innocent boy repeated in his school next day. The wife is back in India, father in UK and the boy was in social care, later sent to his family in India.

Punshiment by parents and teachers is very common in India. I read that one teacher broken wrist bone on student because he did not complete home work.

This is very common scenario in Indian schools including private/public or even convent run schools.

Too much of discipline can affect reversely, children tend to do what they are not directed to do, and for this it is extremely important to understand the basic psychosis of child and a little bit of discipline whenever it required.

Wise parenting is the ability to strike a balance between " what and what not". Mere spanking will not yield results as desired by the parents.

There are instances of child going rogue with strict parenting, according to some medical researches, with strict and fearful discipline child can develop schizophrenia and this could hamper development of child's personality.

Excess of anything should be avoided. A wise parent will never do that. Rather the bringing up should be in such a way that the child realizes his or her mistake and amends.
