True smoke emanating from religious functions are responsible for generating green house gases, the number one contributor for ecological degradation.
The melting of Himalayan glaciers has been a subject of ongoing controversy. Unfortunately, reliable data is not available with any Government department. There has been a total lack of genuine effort to get down to practical ground study of the state of Himalayan glaciers instead of depending only on satellite images.

Is it really the number one contributor? I always thought it was one of the minor contributors among the big players. Biggest are the ones those cutting forests there in Himalayas and building factories which are emitting lot of smoke.

Number one contributor for for generating green house gases. Deforestation doesn't contribute to generation of green house gases. Smoke from different industrial gases also contribute to generation of green house gases.

Number of people burning woods and "havan samagri" is increasing. Many people have built new temples which has increased the percentage of such religious activities. Thus it is obvious. Now a days the use of latest gadgets have also increased the problem of snow melting in hill areas. It is very difficult to stop them.

Smoke is not only reason, increasing of traffic is also responsible for melting snow of Himalaya.

Green house gas emissions emit carbon dioxide ,Ozone, methane, Nitrous oxide and CFC, chloro flouro carbons which are capable of melting the glaciers. This in turn raise the sea levels. Ozone layer will be depleted causing hazardous diseases like Skin cancer.

I also thinking the same way, as smokes from religious places are one such reason but prominent reason are ignored, as religious places are not open through out year due to untraceable lands, these are here for so many years and how suddenly these impacts on it difficult to comprehend, :silly: :silly:

Sir this is not the deforestation but building factories on that land those emit lot of smoke. Deforestation does make other differences which cause melting of snow.

Yes building factories is behind this. Whatever may be the reason, smoke from the chimneys built on that land is emitted
This causes release of green house gases which deplete the ozone layer.during the manufacture of refrigerators chloro fluoride is used which is also a green house gas.
