The way mahatama gandhi lived and what he preached is highly idealistic. It is good to follow him to the extent you can. But sometimes you have to be pragmatic. You can't be non violent when your duty demands. You cannot be truthful when you need tell a lie for public good or in due performance of duty.

While some of his policies such as " 'There is no God higher than truth'" is good to follow, some of his policies cannot be strictly followed and will have to be tweaked as per the demand of the situation.

Change is needed in tune with the times. In view of the present day's scenario Satyagraha is not suitable. But his principle "Cleanliness is next to godliness " is very relevant to the present days. That's why Modi implemented it.

actually Gandhian is best to follow. But you can't follow this unilaterally. If everyone or most folow, this is okay. But if only some follow, they will be in very losing position. This is like one player going by rules of game while others play foul.

No principle can work unilaterally. One needs two hands to clap and produce sound.

Yes, agree with it..and we should follow it too...but like it is mentioned if all of us follow the same rule..it is seen as beneficial whereas if only few follow we lose out.

I like Gandhism. This has been explained in clear terms, why I like gandhism in the earlier threads.. Have a look at them. Gulshan also expressed the same as you said. Having a handful of followers, will not serve the purpose.

No doubt that Gandhi's way of life and principlews he believed in was exemplery and in my opinion not just citizens but our politicians need to follow this rather than use his name when it suits their purpose...I cannot think of a single person who can come clsoe to him in stature in the present time !

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

Gandhi is great in his own respect. Gandhism and his principles are relevant even to the present times, provided , they are applied carefully to the present times. Which s why, Modi decided to implement" Gandhism in his governance. Swatchchata is nothing but Ganhi 's principle, " Cleanlissness is next to Godliness.".
