The union HRD minister seeks astrological/ palmistry help for her future. No doubt this is her personal matter. But it is also a matter of considerstion how her own undegraduate educational status and superstitious faith in fortune telling is compatible with HRD ministry that needs to manage education in a way to cultivate scientific and rational temperament.  It may e recalled that the HRD minister in earlier BJP led government under Murli Manohar Joshi also wanted to iclude astrology in B.Sc. stream.  It is wonder in which direction the superstitious and semi educated HRD minister will lead our education policy. Will palmists be employed as teachers?

I think someone believing in astrology or not has got very little to do with their educational status. Of course every body including ministers, celebrities and commoners are entitled to their beliefs and if this has got nothing to do with the people or public in general, it should not bother us.

If this were such a useless thing -"astrology": why on earth in every news channel we have dedicated time slots running news related to astrology...discussing various topics related to astrology. Astrology is an age-old science and we cannot discount this fact.

No matter what it may be astrology is practised by many and being beleived by many, science calls superstitious to one matter and in the next it makes beleive it, however, it is HRD minister's private visit and why media persons are making hue and cry over it.

Astrology is as much part of human life as his belief in religion. It's personal choice of a person that need not be interfered by others.  Criticizing anything for criticism will not help any political purpose in this case. I am sure the HRD minister of current government is not the only one that has her trust in such things. Remember Indira Gandhi and her Rudraksh of all mukhi  coming from Himalayas but then no one raised any questions.

Astrology belief is depends on the person who believe it. Media should not much involve in it. Media should not interfere in personal life of the person much deeply.

Including Astrology as a subject does not mean that other subjects are not given importance. If one wants to reserach and study astrology , now he will have the opportunity to do so and why not ? If the Western universities have subjects like Theology and study of Christ, why not an ancient science like Astrology?

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

To believe in Astrology or in any religious faith is a personal matter, and it is a great relief that we enjoy such freedom in our country. I don’t think astrology will make a person superstitious. But, unfortunately, this most ancient form of science has become an outcast from the modern scientific community due to some misconceptions.

Here let e contrast Pt Nehru our first P.M. who had scientific and rational attitude. Some member has referred to Rudrakhsa used by Indira Gandhi. Of course, Indira Gandhi had no scientific or rational attitude. she was surrounded by tantriks like Dhirendra Brahamachari. I read an article by an ex I.A oficer, most probably Dharam Vir. He wrote that Indira gandhi had suspician that Late P.M. Chaudharay charan Singh was performing 'Maran mantra' uajna to kill Nehru. she wanted Dhara Vir to investigate. dharam Vir did not believe in such superstitions but it was no use pointing out this to the superstious and irrational lady. so he spent some time reading the tantrik and other books. He also talked to some 'experts' on such science. He reported to Indira gandhi that such Mantra/ yajna can be perfored against any body if there is no river or water inbetween. There was yamuna river and other water resources between Charan singh's resdience/village. So he was not performing the maran yajna.

I agree that every one has a choice. So let us decide our choice. My choice is to defend and support rartional and scientific attitude.

Even if Astrology is taught as a course, one many not find too many takers.  There are hundreds of other professions like for example, Visual Communication, Interior Design, Bio-informatics and so on, that offer far greater scope than astrology.

As a private individual the Minister is very much within her rights to seek anyone's advise on anything, including astrology.

Yes, she is semi-literate, but one is given to understand that she is a good administrator.  So, let us wait and give her a chance.

However, one wonders why a superb individual like Arun Shourie is kept out of such a vital portfolio.

@ABSIVAKUMAR for your info she has a degree from Yale University in US. Now if you call it semi educated then I agree she is uneducated. As far Arun Shourie I am not sure if he is member of any house besides he is well passed 73 which makes him unsuitable for any ministerial seat

I don't think that the HRD minister's degree is so relevant. The issue raelly as about incorrect particulars in nomination. papers for parliamentary elections.  Selection of ministers is Prime Minister's prerogative. He may allot any ministry to anyone.  Ultimately the council of ministers is collectiely responsible for performance.  Personally, I believe that astrology and palmistry are illogogical and unscientific.  But this is not so big an issue.
