Generally, when we talk of corruption or bribe,  we have in mind the general public greasing palm of public servants. But there is also internal corruption in govt. departments. The employees have to bribe concerned departments for transfer/ postings. Obviously, more lucrative, more the price for choice posting.

It has been repeatedly stated that bribe is the outcome of human greed. It has existed since time immemorial and shall continue till eternity. However its scale can go up and down during particular times. We are living in fools paradise if we believe that it does not exist in even the so called advanced countries. Where ever there is a person in control by whose favorable action someone can benefit the possibility of bribe exchanging hands exists. As simple as that. I once was in a group at a family get together, around forty years ago, when someone came with sweets, and said his son has finally got a government job after a long time. He also said this was possible because a  new Chief Engineer with a kind heart had been posted and he took only 10000 rupees per candidate against the earlier who demanded 25000 rs.A few years after this I started my engineering career with a starting salary of Rs 650 pm. We may like it or not corruption is going to be there. Even private sector suffers from it. Blaming only politicians is not proper.

Well said Vijay. Corruption is omnipresent. You may find a place where sun rays cannot penetrate. But corruption has the potentiality to enter anywhere.

Its a shock to know this kind of thing, this kind of activity further degrades the efficiency and potential of growth of economy to a sub standard level. I have heard that to get into a job there is a bribe, but have never heard of internal bribe. Its an eye-opener. Thank you for the piece of valuable information.

Life is like a boat in a sea, there is a lot to learn, so never close your mind to your limited experiences!

If you are aware of the current scenario, it wouldn't shock you. This a very very common to grease the palms of the authorities to get your things done.

A like public gets a like leader ...In fact part of the blame for corruption lies with the public since they openly accept it and do not feel that it is immoral to do so...The politicians and the bureaucrats who indulge in it are more than happy with such a state of affairs since they have the upper hand !

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

As long as selfishness exists in human nature, there will be corruption. Here morality has no role to play even though we boast about it and blame others, especially politicians, for their immoral acts. It is the general nature of human beings to sacrifice all ethics and ensure one’s own secure future; the opportunities are plenty and procedures are simple…. Life is a great drama and we are clever actors!!

It takes two to tango. I agree with you Usha.

Mangalore is known to have an evolved population and government officers do not normally ask for any bribes, so most higher officials and police officials are not happy when they are transferred to Mangalore from outside the district  and this is a known fact in our state . Similarly, officers belonging to Mngalore , when transferred elsewhere find it very difficult to survive because of the atmosphere prevailing there.Bangalore is one of the worst cities where bribes and corruptions are concerned and you cannot get any work done without bribing the officials and of course the present Siddaramaiah government is filled with some of the worst politicians that country has ..

Obviously, for a corruption free society sincere officers are not enough. From the example depicting the scenario of corruption in Mangalore by Usha one sincere employee can strive for a corruption free life in a congenial atmosphere. That is both the enforcing authorities and the people should direct all their endeavors to eradicate corruption.
