Why, India should bother if Nepal adopts secularism or not ? And if India thinks we will not have a peaceful neighbor. Let it be. Are we living peacefully with a hostile country like Pakistan, where there is no secularism ?

Because everything that happens around us has a direct or indirect effect on our nation. Nepal is a friendly country and we have to make sure that things would continue to be so, and any change in the policies would have an impact on us.Pakistan is a messed up affair which probably will never be set right and all the more reason to see that Nepal does not go the same way. If expressing a view is interference then why start this discussion at all ? just to endorse the view of the member ?

True. Advising is the easiest job. It doesn't attract any tax. Minding our own business or remaining neutral is the best course.

Let's hope that Nepal's political leaders will display the necessary flexibility and maturity at this crucial time to ensure a durable and resilient Constitution that has broad-based acceptance.

Fiscussion on forum or media on events in a country does notamount to interference. This is only when government does so. There is lot of news and comments about all events in any country. This is not interference. If government of India or Govt. of China or  any other government coerces or indulges in undue influence, this will be interference.

Forum discussions are no way considered as interference. Certainly interfering in the policies of one government by any other country is interference and should be avoided.

The question is surely not one of how a sovereign state exercises its sovereign powers but our troubled ties with this nation.India's problems with its small neighbors stems from their discomfort and a sense of jealousy in India's rising status. Added to this phenomenon is the Chinese expansionist designs to use them to torment and nettle India in every possible manner. Thus developments in this nations call for a deeper insight to study their ramifications It definitely poses a formidable challenge to our foreign policy makers.

@ Chinmoy Thats exactly the point I was making earlier that no matter how small a nation is, it still can have a lot of impact on us. India has always interfered in other nations internal matters be it Bangla Desh or Sri Lanka.I hope it does not happen with Nepal too when China is trying its level best to create tension !

India did not interfere with Srilanka but only sent army at request of the Srilankan government. The Bangladesh issue is very diffent. There was large scale genocide and repression of local population by West Pakistan rulers. apparently, Idia interfered there to safeguard the entire people there.   There is no such situation in Nepal.

As regards protecting our interests and arresting chinese influence, this is a matter of diplomacy, which is subtle and latent.

What was done in Srilanka was foolish without going into the ground realities which were that we was going against the Tamils, it was largely to prove a point with regard to Kashmir that such a step was taken which backfired on us, we should have remained neutral...Bangla Desh no doubt is a different issue but for years we have had problems from them ..Nepal as of now is a friend !

Any way look at it, be it with the consent or agreement between India and other countries interference with other country's policies or matters should  the last word for India for its own good. We have seen the repercussions of our interference in Bangla Desh.

Whether Nepal is a friend as of now or otherwise, we will know over a period.
