Many people think, they can climb up to the top positions in the Corporate world with an MBA. The reality is something different. One can climb up the corporate ladder with his knowledge, efforts and hard work. It can be achieved without MBA also.

I joined my first company as a sales engineer after my BE but I got my promotion as Sub Area Manager only when I completed my PGDM. So, in my case it was necessary. I am grateful to my company for providing me time and financial assistance for doing that. So, yes MBA is good for people willing to go up in private sector.

It's an altogether different story in my case. I was just a graduate in Science when I entered the Corporate communications division of a major Public sector Steel plant.  What all they had seen was my past achievements in Advertising Copy writing and design.  And they did not fail to see my dedication and hard work from my past achievements. You know in PSUs, there won't be any compromise in rules. But , the organization  waived off all the rules.

Seeing this my determination and dedication increased more to rise to the expectations of the Management.

From this point, I never looked back. Gradually, over a period i ascended to Managerial hierarchy. When I took my voluntary retirement my designation was Manager, Visual Arts.

All this without an MBA or any other extra qualification related to Management.

Yes, in your field it's possible to reach to even better position without a MBA. After all Picasso or Hussain had no such qualification or no formal qualification at all.

I agree. It all depends on the type of work, one is involved with..  But, irrespective of the field, dedication and hard work will pay. Even if you are a promising and dedicated one with an MBA, dedication and devotion to your work, acts as an additional advantage.

In my field very few will be able to enter into the room of interviewer (at least in organized sector)

There is always need fr quality education and a degree in engineering combined with an MBA is an asset t any individual. All people cannot be like Bill gates , who was also very particular abut education but because of his brilliance could manage to make a mark...I personally feel that an MBA from a god university gives you an edge over others

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

I must admit even in this respect, I consider myself lucky. Though not all times, whenever there are cases of recruiting new candidates occasionally, especially related with my own type of job like Art, and web design, Management used to invite me to become one of the members in the panel to interview the candidates. Of course, the ultimate decision is management's alone.

Today MBA has become a diluted degree because every Tom, Dick and Harry is obtaining it from sundry colleges. MBA degree adds value if obtained from the top, say, 50 colleges. In India MBA is done after graduation unlike in many countries where it is done after gaining 7- 10 years of working experience. It surely helps in understanding about how businesses operate in various areas. Increasingly MBA from good institutes is becoming a requisite for aspiring to higher positions of responsibility in organizations.
