Abid, no this is not a saree design. Rangoli is the design that is used to decorate the front of the homes on auspicious occasions and during festivals! The mere idea behind was to draw positive energy towards one's home and also to spread the feeling of festivity. the material that is used varies from state to state. In states of West Bengal, South India rice paste is used for this purpose while in Maharashtra a fine white powder that is obtained naturally is used for the same.

Oh...That one which is put in front of of houses.I had a neighbour hailing from Maharashtra.On Deepavali day I found some drawings on their yard.That is Rangoli.Am I right?
