    Yes, chess did originate in India (probably, although I am not sure, its the same as the game of Dyoot that is mentioned in Mahabharata)

    I am not very sure whether it originated in India but I love to play chess as it helps to enhance our memory,focus and concentration.

    The chess game in India differs from western chess. This could have been invented simultaneously. We need to find out the origin on Google search engine. I shall do so and add my further comments thereafter.

    Yes, but the name was not Chess then.It was a main hoby of Kings of ancient times and our epic depicts the lose of a country due to defeat in Chathuranga.
