The last rites of some communities include burning of the dead bodies and disposal of the residue viz. ash or bones by immersing in rivers. some times the dead bodies are half burnt. This is not environment friendly and rivers are polluted. In these circumstances burning of bodies in electric crematorium may be more appropriate. also, it does not seem proper to kill a tree for disposing a dead human body. I wish members to share their views.

I believe in Islam.We don't burn dead bodies.According to our belief dead body has to be buried in earth.Electric cremation also against our belief.So I don't support this.

But those who burn it should make sure that the body is burned fully.Recently I received a mail showing half burnt bodies floating in some river.

Gulshansir,

This is a very nice thought to prevent trees. Well in our community we have already accepted it. Well this cannot be compelled upon as all have their own customs in this regards. God bless.

Abid and Jayan- The Hindus and some others burn dead bodies whereas Muslims bury. So, the electric crematorium is not for Muslims and Christians who bury. Burning is burning. This is only a question of using new technology. When we use new technology for kitchen and cooling water, why not use it for burning dead bodies. Burning by firewood or electric means is same. Electric crematorium is latest technique. All rituals as done in burning by wood can be performed even by using electric crematorium.

gulshan really very nice topic.In my view why this method of burning is used in India because India is land of religion and culture.we people here are bound them self in the old beliefs which is coming from so many years thats why this still going on and this will continue going like this for many years.In some cases i have seen electric method used be the person who has dead used to drink lot of alcohol thats why his family used electric method.
jasmeet singh- Many technological changes have taken place. There is no basic change sought in cremation. Burning is burning. Use of firewood or electric method is same. All the rites can be performed as usual even by using electric crematorium. We have at Agra also electric crematorium. Some use it. We just need to popularize the new technique for environment and saving trees.

@Gulshan

The civic authorities in our locality have switched over to this some years back but there is a strange class of people who, under the heavy influence of superstition,still continue the old practice.Thanks for rasing the topic!
I think you are right Gulshan your suggession should be implemented to control pollution and to save trees.

Gulshan,
If cremation is to be done I think the best method is to be chosen for it.Electric cremation may be best.But if some beliefs are against it nothing can be done.

Abid- As I wrote earlier, electric crematorium is not relevant to those who bury the dead bodies. thus this is relevant to Hindus. They burn. Burning by modern means is better than the old one. If you burn by using wood, you have to kill many trees for burning one body. So, electric crematorium is best for Hindus. All last rites are possible even when electric crematorium is used.
